Headcanon: Why Celestia didn't go to the EG universe · 11:06pm Apr 5th, 2014
Warning: Contains spoilers for the comics
Rewatching the movie, I wondered why Celestia didn't go into the mirror to retrieve the Element of Magic, or didn't go in to find Sunset Shimmer—who had once been a prized student. It may have been that she didn't want to disrupt the balance of the world by appearing the with another Celestia around, but she clearly states that she knows very little about the world. Why is it that she let Sunset spend years there, and never once try to bring her back and see reason? And why didn't she go in to retieve the Element? Could it be that she want both Twilight and Sunset to learn some lesson?
Possible, but I don't think so, or at least isn't the entire reason. I believe there's something keeping her back, something caused by Equestia's notorious mare's stallion himself: Star Swirl the Bearded.
History of the Mirror
In my last blog, I mentioned Star Swirl's mirrors. When Celestia was younger, she and Star Swirl would travel to several parallel universes for the sake of research.
All was good, as long as they didn't visit the same worlds too much. But, sadly, there was one world Celestia couldn't keep herself from.
As of now, it's unknown as to what is on the other side, but if this image is anything to go by, along with this one, then my best guess is that she was in love (or at least had a close friendship) with the Mirror!Sombra, and for Star Swirl to close the portal on her would hurt a lot.
This would mean that the reason for her to refuse to go the EG universe is because she is still in some way grieving over her separation from the other universe, and because she is ashamed of disobeying her friend who made the mirrors in the first place.
Headcanon Disclaimer
Even though I state it as fact, all the above is purely speculation and maybe even wild mass guessing. This is how I interpret the show, and is presented like fact to explain why something happens the way it does in a in a story of mine.
I meant to post this one last week, but time and wifi had other plans.
Wonder what prompted her to go through Starswirl's original portal at the start of the comic then.
1984475 Finally built up the nerve I guess. With all the stuff that had happened recently, she might have pushed to going. And look what became of her visit.
Looks good. Fairly consistent. I like.
(I am, unfortunately, not that cohesive, comprehensive, or conscious at 1 in the morning.)
1985122 Sadly, I am... it's the day time that trouble's me.
