New story... that you probably didn't see. Also, April Fools stuff. And Blake's 7 · 7:48pm Apr 2nd, 2014

I published an exciting new story yesterday that most of you probably didn't see, as it was on Arcanium's account! We took part in Ob's 'swap accounts thing' for April Fools Day, though decided not to disguise our accounts as each others, instead actually swapping account passwords for the day.

Arcanium 'hilariously' claimed I was marrying Starscream which of course is absurd, as everyone knows that Thundercracker is my true waifu.

I decided that Arc should finish his Harpflank and Sweets series (which was very popular but he has been so lax in updating over the past... two years!) with a grand finale. I'll put the link down here, don't worry, you don't need to read any of the previous ones (though you should!), I tried to make it as newbie-friendly as possible, as well as basing it after a doubly-ficticious 'Harpflank and Sweets season 3' so I could make stuff up to my hearts content.

Sweetflank and Harps

For the past few years, Lyra and Bon-Bon as the heroic Harpflank and Sweets have defended Metropony City from various vile villains. However, all good things must come to an end.

Bon-Bon is worried about an unexpected Cutie Mark switcheroo between her and her partner. Lyra is worried about how 1980s budget sci-fi show Blake's 7 ended. They really should both be worried about the sinister machinations that threaten to destroy M.A.R.E once and for all.
They've been looking out for the city, but who's there to look after them? And is King Sombra, the disappointing villain of the difficult season 3, really as dead as he appears?

Robots! Explosions! Muffins!

Tune in for another exciting adventure of... Sweetflank and Harps?!

I hope you guys like it. I didn't want to 'waste anyone's time' on a prank (especially my own, as I was writing the thing!) so tried to make it a genuinely good story as well as something that is probably more clearly something I'd write than something Arcainum would. He really liked it, and that's the main thing. We are both Blake's 7 fans (Yes, I know, the two Blake's 7 fans in the world both happen to post on Fimfic!)

Yes, there's spoilers for the ending of Blake's 7, but it's a really old late 70s/early 80s cheap British sci-fi show, so the liklihood of any of you seeing it or indeed caring is slim (though you'd be wrong, it's great!). At the time it was very popular though; this was before television fell into the 'this show is for normal people, and this is sci-fi for you geeks, go away). It regularly got around ten million viewers per episode, and this is in a country which had around 50 million in the population at the time. It also felt very much like a more grown-up Doctor Who, as most of the creative team behind it had previously worked on Doctor Who.

For all the popularity though, the one thing that people still remember about it was the ending, one of the most infamous moments in British television history. When I sat down to write this story, I wanted to make it some sort of finale, but also talk about how things we love end, and how that makes us feel (well, makes me feel). There also a lot in there from End of Evangelion (which I personally disliked as it felt like a middle finger up to fans, but Arc likes the old anime stuff) and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, which you should read if you've not.

And there is, of course, a big flashing 'get out clause'. As things only really end in television once no-one wants to make the show anymore, reality be damned!

Anyway, I really enjoyed writing the story. It made Arc happy which was the main thing, and between you and me, maybe it will inspire him to write more again! I've also not really written anything in anyone elses fanfic world before, so trying to work everything out and then plot a quite complex twisting story in a short amount of time was a huge challenge.

I will leave you with the last 6 minutes of the end of Blake's 7, unfortunately in potato quality (youtube has uploads of most of it, but only half of season 4).

Edit: Oh wow, and I forgot about the BLAKE'S 7 ROCK SONG by band Star One. You see it a lot on youtube where people try and make Star Wars music videos out of it, not realising it's actually a song about Blake's 7!

I think this story was the best part of April Fool's on Fimfic, because it was not only a joke story, but a well written story with equal parts silly and serious - and here's the most important part - true Harpflank and Sweets action.

I think I'm going to watch Blake's Seven at some point. A lot of good writers online seem to have liked it.

Also: End of Evangelion.... Whooh. There's something I had mixed feelings about.

This youtube channel has most of Blakes 7 uploaded. Each season is 13 eps, there's only a few missing (mostly in the last series). No idea if they are official uploads, but they are very good quality. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCww62Q1B2hR7RWfSIV4TjyA

The rest is on Dailymotion

If you just watch one, my favourite is season 3 ep 8, "Rumours of Death"

Thanks. Yeah, I wanted to still write a decent story, and half of it was a bit of a gift for Arc, I didn't want to upset him with something half-assed, but at the same time I think it was a very 'Blueshift' story.

Huh. And here I thought you were just coming out as gay and the starscream thing was just some silliness.

He got me, kinda.

When I read it first I thought that's what he did

I guess I got April Fool'd despite knowing it was Aprils Fools :twilightoops:

1977190

but at the same time I think it was a very 'Blueshift' story

Nope, not enough "What if Trixie and Twilight were in love... and supervillains?" for that :trollestia:

I don't actually know if I'm going to pronounce his name as "Arcainum" or "Arcanium" anymore. Thank you for noting that.

Everyone likes Thundercracker better than Starscream.

Except Mirage...

Aww man. Well, then I admit it. I fell for the gag, totally. Congrats to you and Arcainum.

Oh, and the story was good too.:derpytongue2:
