The Day the Aprils Fooled · 4:44pm Apr 2nd, 2014
Hi guys! So, some of you probably noticed what happened yesterday, what with so many users seemingly undergoing an identity crisis. I hear that Pen Stroke chap even became a mod for a short while! How did that happen? Who even knows?
Well, in a nutshell, it was basically a giant event I organized called the Fimfiction April Fools' FaceJam.
Welcome to it.
The gist of it was that I called up a lot of friends and folks I knew and said "Hey, do you want to do something ridiculous for April Fools' Day?" I described to them an insane plan by which people would pair up and switch names, change their avatars to each other's, and generally pretend to be their partner for the day. It was a crazy plan, I thought. It'd never work. Nobody'd be silly enough to follow me into this disaster trap.
A lot of people actually said yes.
Like most things I do, it was enacted because I wanted to do something fun, and it ended up way even crazier than I'd ever envisioned. All in all, I think we had somewhere around thirty participants! Many of them prominent personalities on the site, like RainbowBob, shortskirtsandexplosions, Regidar, and Eakin. A complete list of everyone who participated would be pretty long, and might be stepping on privacy's toes, but I'm sure you noticed quite a few of them around the site.
It was a pretty big undertaking, and I'm happy to say it was pretty darn successful! A lot of people went above and beyond the call of duty of switching names/avatars with each other, making elaborate reconstructions of each others' pages, posting blogs, and even stories, to complete the illusion. It seems to have been great fun for the participants, and I'm hoping it was enjoyable for all you guys too.
I teamed up with Pen Stroke, since he's a pretty cool guy and we've hung together on occasion. We set up a pretty good scheme together, and were among the first pairs to make the swap, so we probably made one of the biggest splashes. We took screenshots of each others' userpage modules and put them in custom boxes so that we could create a competent illusion of having swapped userpages. It seems we threw quite a few people off with the swap, so I'd like to think we succeeded in pulling it off.
Then we posted blogs on the swap, where Pen Stroke pretending to be me announced that I'd stepped down as moderator over creative differences with knighty, and I as Pen Stroke announced he'd been promoted to mod (along with the long-awaited sequel to Past Sins, Past Sins 2: The Rise of Snowdrop!). We also posted stories based on each others' ideas, where Pen Stroke suggested I write a story where Pinkie runs out of helium and only has a single balloon left, and I suggested to him an idea about Twilight and her friends drifting apart. It was pretty tough pulling the stories on the April Fools' deadline, but I'm reasonably happy with what I pushed out. I can only hope Pen is happy with his story too.
My story was If You Love Something. Pen's was Drift (and it was pretty cool!) so go check both of them out if you have the time.
We had a great deal of fun, and I'd be more than happy to team up with him again on other projects in the future. Quite a ride, it was!
And sorry that my Past Sins 2 announcement wasn't official, everyone. If you want it, be sure to bug Pen Stroke about it a whole bunch! I'm sure he'd love that. <3
Hope you guys had a happy April Fools' Day, and that the FaceJam brightened your enjoyment of it by some small amount. See y'all next time!
Weird, no one looks surprised.
How can I get into these crazy group things? I'm crazy. Just the right kind of crazy. So I'd be a perfect fit!
Disclaimer: May not actually be perfect.
I personally thought it was one of the funniest April Fools gag's I've ever seen, and the fact that it was so wide spread and confused so many only made it that much better. Good on ya, Hat Lord!
I an genuinely upset you didn't post Past Sins 2. C'mon mannnnnn

I'm glad you had fun too, Meeester. <3
Still Waters and I genuinely took over the other's accounts
literally didn't even log in yesterday, my body wasn't ready
1976940 knighty's facebook blog made me chuckle a bit.
I was halfway through Pen Stroke's blog post — the first of the April 1st I actually read — when I went, "Why in the hay is Pen Stroke talking about stepping down as moderator?" [scroll up] "Why is he calling himself Obselescence?"
You see, I often go by the story and blog post titles in the right column when identifying who is the author of a blog post; something to do with the fact I'm terrible at remembering names
Thus, I went through the whole thing forewarned
It was fun to see, regardless
The whole thing was fairly lame. But, well, once can't expect much on the internet for April Fool's.

Waittt... was bailing chuckward out of his ban for one day also part of your april fools' scheme? Or was a witty mod masquerading as him?

I'm not surprised. Something always happens to this site April 1. I wasn't here for any other than this years, but I have access to this awesome thing called:
The internet.
It was a pretty good prank, bravo to you guys.
I wasn't really "fooled," since I knew about the prank beforehand. More just confused, really. I had my own prank goin' on at the same time which required me to be on my own account, so I didn't switch. Maybe next year.
One word.
