Is it okay to say that the Flimflam Brothers are bad news, now? Is it okay to point out that they're slimy creeps? 'Cuz they totally are. And I did like seeing them return, it felt like a treat. Their song wasn't as catchy this time, though.
I liked that the episode showcased the influence Applejack's generated due to her honesty. Ponies really look up to her. It would be really interesting to see future episodes explore the consequences of her brief bout with dishonesty, but that's way too much continuity to expect out of this series.
I'll be honest, I didn't much care for Silver Shill. I kinda wanted to see him get punched in the face. Although, him turning his life around is still pretty satisfying, and fits better with the purpose of the show.
"Y'all don't wanna sell me tonic."
"I don't want to sell you tonic."
"Y'all wanna go home an' rethink yer life."
"I want to go home and rethink my life..."
Granny Smith was super awesome, as she usually is. It was so nice to see her getting a kick out of life again (even if it was the backdrop to Applejack's crisis of conscience).
Overall, I quite enjoyed this story, but preferred it when it was a Little House on the Prairie episode. [The one about the traveling preacher? Anybody remember that one? Hello? Anybody?]
Yeah, Silver Shill was basically a poor man's Coco Pommel. Think about it, his relationship with Flim and Flam is just like Coco's relationship with Suri Polomare. Maybe they're related somehow? That or people are gonna ship them, knowing this fandom.
While I enjoyed seeing the FlimFlam brothers return, I found it to be kinda unbelievable. You'd think ponies would be more wary of them after what happened the last time they rolled into town. Josh Haber really needs to work on creating believable scenarios in the context of the show's canon.
My favorite part was the moral being a subtle callback to Return to Harmony. This scenario is exactly what Discord used to corrupt Applejack way back when, and I loved seeing her overcome it.

"You mean those two well-meaning young colts who made a batch of bad cider? Didn't they have a friendly competition with the Apples? It was so long ago, I can hardly remember! Oh, they're probably just trying to get back on their hooves..."
Ooh, that is a rather nice connection!
