I don't blog often enough (and how I'm going to fix that) · 5:36am Mar 20th, 2014
I was chatting in a channel a few days back. We were talking about the featured box, popularity, followers, and all that jazz. About a month ago I started following a few people like Present Perfect and Wanderer D who blog post semi frequently about fandom hot topics, story reviews, and give advice.
Bottom line is: it made me realize I'm not really engaging you guys in a way that I could be. That I should be. I try to let my work speak for itself, replying only to direct questions and trying not to clutter up the comment section of my stories with my replies. I see people with a small circle of friends who all read each others' fics and man, I am so jealous of what those people have. I tend to gravitate towards other people like me: authors who don't read, who procrastinate in their writing, and who don't get out there and do things. But now I've realized that you paid attention to me and followed me and I should reciprocate that.
I once published 3000-4000 words every 4 or 5 days without fail for over 20 chapters. I have days where I write that much in a single afternoon, but rather than feeling good about it, I just wonder, "Man, why isn't every day like that?" I don't believe it has anything to do with my muse. With practice 'muse' becomes less and less of a thing until inspiration is no longer a requirement for you to write, just a bonus.
I'm juggling university, learning to game program, learning to draw, and writing. It sounds like a lot--and it is--but I feel as though I could succeed in all these things if I manage my time more efficiently.
Anyway, I've got about 24,000 words worth of unpublished work spread across 4 different stories. One is going to be a short, somewhat episodic multipart adventure-comedy similar in length to "Let's Find You a Date!", one is a good ol' one shot, another is a good ol' one shot broken up into 2 halves, and the last is aiming to be a dark epic adventure with the goal of capturing innocent characters forced into dark and desperate times. I'm going to spend the rest of the night shaping up that adventure-comedy fic, hopefully posting it tomorrow morning.
So that's the update on my writing. I also plan on writing more blog posts on intense philosophical questions, keys to self-improvement, and how waffle cones make everything better.
Truth.
