freedom of speech is, quite possibly, the only truly sacred thing we have. The sort of shit that went down was despicable. I find it utterly obnoxious when self-important social justice warrior blowhards not only don't get what they're doing, but are constantly pushing their own dumb shit onto everybody else, all whilst being lying, two-faced, hypocritical sacks of shit.
I'll take this blog down soon because it's not interesting to most people, but I do want to spread the video. I don't care whether the creator likes bronies or not. I don't give a soggy shit. But, what I do care about is the freedom to express yourself. Not to be forced to agree -- or even to disagree or have any sort of opinion unless you want to have one -- but to express yourself should you desire.
I find it utterly disgusting how "tolerance" means "bending over backwards for people who find that they can't stand being offended by something". I am, in short, intolerant of intolerance and very little else.
Many people don't grasp that tolerating something and respecting/approving of it are very different things. The idea that some people think they have the right now to be offended and shut down others accordingly is the second most mind-boggling thing about online speech. The most mind-boggling thing is that it actually works most of the time.
The "I have a right not to be offended" crowd is getting pretty annoying. Bah, screw social conventions. Having studied history, you realize how transient social customs and conventions are, and how little they mean over the long term.

As for that essay mentioned at the end, yeah. Another author I follow posted a link to that in a blog post. I was bored, so I went through and fact-checked a good chunk of the verifiable claims that were made. Surprise, surprise, they were BS. After a running debate of at least two dozen comments, said author deleted the entire conversation, then sent me a PM that basically said "your facts disagree with my opinions, so they must be lies."
These people are not some Illuminati-like "them". They are all around us, and they need to be called on their crap whenever they try to pull it.
Interesting video and I do agree with many of the points in it, hypocrites should not be trying to dictate values. Only complaint I really have is the use of autism in it mostly because of it being too much of a catch-all word now for a wide variety of issues. Not every type of it is a "disability" as many people seem to think. Einstein actually had a variety of it and I don't see people labling him as having a disability. The video was close on part of it though as one form of autism is really why some people are socially awkward as that is the form it takes.

well shitstainpony calls herself "autistic" - in this case, it's not a diagnosis if you ask me, it's a crutch that lets her be a complete asshole because it's a "condition" which she's too pathetic to overcome. It's an insult to people who really do suffer from autism, and is just another black mark on her already less than stellar record.
I really don't have time to watch a half hour video right now, but I do agree with what you say. Freedom of speech (and other associated freedoms, like freedom of religion and the right to be free from discrimination) is extremely important, and I hate that defending it often has me defending truly hateful people (or at least their rights). The Westboro Baptists are in the news right now, and in the last few days I've had a half dozen entirely different conversations with people who now think I'm an asshole for not thinking they should have their rights to free speech restricted.
Voltaire is one of those people who I do try to model my own ethics after, and Evelyn Hall's quote on his behalf "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it", is one of the most important sentiments there is.

I love this video because this guy feels exactly the same way I do about this social justice bullshit that has been popping up recently. Now if only more people would call PinkiePony out on her hypocritical fuckery.
The loss of Princess Molestia and Gamer Luna was so upsetting to me that I cried a bit. John Joseco is a better artist than I will ever be in the rest of my entire lifespan, and his comics were nothing but brilliant. Yes, he portrayed Celestia as abusing her royal power for sexual domination... but he did so in a very astonishing way -
He portrayed her has being aware, at some level, of her own misuse of power. She was ashamed to deal with her mother - The Fausticorn, no less. This wasn't just a rape joke played over and over, John Joseco was leading up to Molestia coming to terms with herself, her sister, and her situation. There was an over-arching story going on behind the one-note joke, and it was amazing.
Even more amazing was the portrayal of young love between Luna and Derpy, with both struggling to define themselves innocently contrasting directly against Molestia's deeply disturbed issues. The running story had a poignant drama going on, all done with an artistic skill I could only sit and envy deeply.
But that said, even if there had not been all of that rich and wonderous subtext and complexity to the Molestia Tumblr, even if all it had been was just a big stupid run of obnoxious molestation jokes - the bottom line is that Joseco shouldn't have been targeted and harassed into the forced destruction of his work.
I, personally, am very, very sensitized to this sort of issue, because of the harassment I have experienced here on Fimfiction - and the lack of defense, protection, or support. That shouldn't happen to anyone for any reason. I wrote Conversion Bureau, and somebody didn't like that, and they nearly destroyed my life. John Joseco did a comic about a perverted Celestia and her long-suffering sister, and somebody didn't like that, and they destroyed the only Tumblr I ever cared about. Harassment of artists because their art makes somebody angry is wrong. Period.
Whether the reason is religious, or philosophical, or personal, or whatever, causing trouble for an artist because of the content of their art is wrong. It is vile, abhorrent, and utterly, utterly wrong. Any human that would try to silence an artist for the content of their artwork is the worst that humanity can become. They are despicable. They are, by themselves, reason enough to become a misanthrope. They paint humankind as loathsome.
It doesn't matter if you don't like someone else's art. Fuck off. Your place is to shut the hell up because silencing art amounts to killing the soul of Mankind. If you harass an artist, for any reason, you are killing the human soul - and it doesn't matter one bit your excuse, or your reasons, or your complaint. YOU are in the wrong, if you try to silence any artist, ever, about anything. Period.
The loss of John Joseco's work is a very sad thing. It was brilliant, and I have no patience with any person who thinks he did not have the right to do his Molestia parody Tumblr. I don't accept any reason whatsoever to say he should not have been free to do his art. Don't even fart at me about 'intellectual property rights' much less 'rape culture'. I have no time for undiluted stupid.

Although he has come back with Ask Gaming Princess Luna it isn't the same. For one thing, he no longer is telling a story, as he did with Molly. It is wonderful to see his pony art again, but it is a terrible tragedy to have lost so much of his wonderful work previous to now.
I am still very upset about all of this. It is so damn wrong.

Tangentially related, there's the incident with the nine-year-old boy who took a Rainbow Dash backpack/lunch-bag (not sure which) to school. Cue bullying and the principal telling him to leave it home, rather than discipline the bullies.
It hits the news. Glenn freaking Beck stands up for the boy. I don't care what your politics are, bullying is bad, and a major media personality standing up for him is a good thing. But (stupid me) when I look at the comment section on EqD, all I see is a "who can be the biggest poo-flinging ape" contest. Apparently, anything Beck does is automatically wrong, and anyone who agrees with anything Beck does is automatically a bad person.
This should be something we can all agree on. It certainly should be something all bronies can agree on. At the very least, we should be able to agree that "even broken clocks are right twice each day." But no, we're too busy name-calling media personalities and tearing into each other to actually pay any attention to the issue.

It would be nice if people who are "triggered" by things could be assured of not being "triggered" but that requires everyone else in the world to be aware at all times of everybody with a mental disorder and to curtail many otherwise everyday activities just in case.

I am so fucking PTSD that I am on medication 24 hours a day, just about everything triggers me, and I am terrified by the cruel, uncaring, evil world more than any person you are likely to ever meet and the LAST THING I would ever even CONTEMPLATE is censoring ANYTHING to protect me, or anyone else, from ARTISTIC CONTENT.
I am absolutely against bullying and harassment, but I am equally absolutely against censorship for any goddamn reason at all. When I hear someone bitch about some work of art 'triggering' them my attitude is "I am so sorry, turn your eyes and let the rest of us live our lives, because your problem is yours and it is not the world's."
It is one thing to be attacked. It is entirely another to bump into something that just happens to exist in the world. I am on the side of the truly victimized. I have no patience, and little tolerance for the person who cannot abide a work of art existing in the same universe they live in.
That last is the VERY reason those who attacked me had for harassing me. It is never right, it is always wrong. I don't care what this woman's problems are, she has the same right that Muslims or feminist separatists or any other group of insane bastards have of expecting all graphic artists to stop drawing because it is somehow offensive - ZERO.
