Fanfiction Reading Update #148 · 10:04am Mar 8th, 2014

I'm not dead. Just busy. Which do you think I'm writing right now: the next chapter of Regent, a comedy oneshot where government bureaucrats hamper Trixie's duel with Twilight, a school essay on the effects of globalization on the third world, or a Twiluna clopfic where my fetish takes center stage?

Rites of Ascension updates with the Silly Adventures of Shining Armor and Intelligencia (or however you spell her name) wrapping up.

Her Mother's Daughter updates with the Twiluna plot being placed on the backburner in favor of a dragon invasion plot.

Necrosis updates with the author letting just a little hope linger on the fringes of the [Grimdark] abyss, while Spike and Twilight work to chuck the story off of said abyss. Probability of [Grimdark] ending: 99%.

Through a Glass, Darkly updates with a short snippet of a chapter detailing the hazards of being a mid-ranking government employee in an evil mirror universe.

Bad Future Crusaders updates with Silver Spoon cutting Scootaloo and Apple Bloom lose in her bid to escape the Equestrian military.

Exit Through Canterlot firmly solidifies my new fanfic justice system policy—that I'll be as cautious reading fanfics with them as I am with Tyrantlestia fanfics—after it lets Octavia off with a slap on the wrist despite openly admitting to hating the Mane Six for having the audacity to ruin her evening. What a cunt.

Morbid Curiosity updates with the gore tag getting a needed flexing as Twilight analyzes a serial killer. Probability of [Grimdark] ending: 40%.

Memoirs in Ink and Blood updates with Luna and Discord allying themselves with Chrysalis in their bid to overthrow evil!Twilight. Probability of [Grimdark] ending: 99%.

RAID updates for the first time since I started the Fanfiction Reading Updates, with Dash's special forces mission going wrong and some old fashioned survivor's guilt bubbling up to the surface.

The time has come, Possible Favorites.

Banishment becomes the first victim of my new fanfic justice system policy with its lack of a court system, cruel and unusual punishments that would make the Roman Empire cringe, and a healthy dose of “fuck over Twilight”--another fanfic element I hate.

After randomly clicking on a chapter of Luna's Lunacy--which I will not be linking to in any form because it's a disgusting pile of shit—I immediately regret the decision and satisfy my regret with a downvote. Seriously, it's terrible, both in content and in plot. Probability of [Grimdark] ending: 100 Fucking Percent. It's like gurochan, but on Fimfiction.

Anniversary Mayhem simply lacks the drive to keep me interested in the party planning plot and so is cut.

In an attempt to broaden my fleet beyond the Twiluna, I read the Soarindash comedy The Invisibility Stallion. Awkward Soarin, plus a plot ripe for comedy means it gets favorited.

A foolish Oneshot stepped forth to oppose me.

Rogues Anonymous receives a rare downvote for being a combination Lightning Dust Mare Do Well “fix fic” story. I dislike agenda driven stories—especially when they fuck up what was a decent comedy fic.

And that's all I read for the daymonth.

# of story updates remaining: 119.
# of “Read Later” stories remaining: 837.

I could not agree with your more about Rogues Anonymous. I tend to avoid stories I'm sure I won't like, so this isn't usually common for me, but I genuinely wished I could unread it. And I'm not exactly keen on this whole Badass Twilight Exiled contest, because it means we're gonna get an influx of stories like Banishment. I've never understood the idea of stories where Twi is punished like that, it just never seems to make sense to me.

I had an idea for a story (scuttled by my total lack of both skill and time) about Celestia and Twilight organizing her exile as a pretense for her to infiltrate some gryphons who are planning an attack on Equestria, purely because it seemed the only way my mind could justify Celestia exiling Twilight.

Gnight :) time for sleeps...

1906760 It is a poor idea for a contest, yes, because it requires Celestia to act OOC unless done very, very well. Very few of them are.

And yes, Rogues Anonymous was depressingly squandered as far as potential goes with the MDW bs.

I'm going to say... E. All of the above.

Also, consider me duly warned about justice systems. If I ever include one, I'll be sure to do my research. Unless it's Luna cracking down on Nightmare Moon cultists, like that one story I had planned for Halloween... of 2012... and still haven't fleshed out beyond an outline. :twilightsheepish:

Rogues Anonymous was such a disappointment. And, I suppose, an indirect validation of your "fictional justice system" rule.

Well, I suppose you might be able to pull it off as a wacky overblown comedy, where Twilight gets exiled for the unforgivable crime of ganking the last slice of cake at the Princess Summit, or something.
