    2020 Update

I know I said last time that I would have Chapter 3 up for you by Halloween/New Years, but one of my aunts fell really ill in mid-October and lost her second battle with Cancer in late November, so for a long time now I just haven't been in the mood to write with Chapter 3 nearly completed.

Chapter 2 is finally finished and out of preview, so for those of you that ignored it because it's a preview, go ahead, it's all there now! For those that did, I hope this is a good excuse to read it again or something. I don't know. Either way, I'm happy its done.

Now, I get to have anxiety over Chapter 3! Yaaaay... x.x

    Poll Results!

Thank you to all 10 of you who voted. The results were pretty decisive; most of you would rather that I wait until I get a 2rd party to overview my work.

However, I feel bad not giving you something for Christmas (or whatever holiday near this time that yo celebrate), so I will institute the following.

    A Poll for the Future.

Sorry for the silence this past little while. I've been very busy IRL and I needed to get a new computer too (my previous one was an 8 and a half year-old Lenovo G550 whose hard disk started to fail) which meant a whole lot transferring and stuff. Writing wise, things have been going well. I wish I could say the same for editing. I had thought I found someone to help me edit back in July, but

Episode Review: It Ain't Easy Being Breezies · 4:40am Mar 5th, 2014

More editing has been done, but still no idea when the remastered bits of Mezza Voce will be done. Just know that it's being worked on as my primary objective for Pony writing and that my time is being consumed by RL matters. If you care what I have to say about the latest episode, you can find it after the break.

Being too kind to others is a double-edged sword. Not only does it allow people the opportunity to step on you as easily as say 'hello' but it can lead one to coddle another. However, being too firm is naturally just as bad as demonstrated in many shows. Some might argue that this is a path that Friendship is Magic has trotted on before, but I tend to disagree. Putting You Hoof Down was about teaching Fluttershy to be more assertive and not let ponies (or Griffons or other sapient creatures) take advantage of her kindness and put her down as a result, which has been shown in recent episodes to have stuck. Rather, this one teaches our favourite yellow pegasus that there IS such a thing as being too kind and that, sometimes, in order to do the best by someone, one needs to be strict and not take 'no' as an answer.

Reverse Sonic Rainboom opening go!

It Ain't Easy Being Breezies (a Cheetos reference if I ever knew any), opens with Fluttershy teaching the rest of the Mane Six how to cheer quietly for the passing through of the Breezies. A lot of "why"s are never explained, but we'll save that for later. The ponies gather around the town square to get ready for the event where Fluttershy reminds the pegasi making the breeze that they need to do it JUST right in order for them to make it home without dying in the process. She also chews out Rarity for her dress and reminds everypony that they need to keep as quiet as they can. The Breezies arrive on a breath of wind to the crowd's quiet awe, but Spike can't see anything because of 'Amethyst Star's' (or background pony #27) plot getting in the way. He climbs up a tree to get the best seat in the house, but a leaf falls off the branch and into the path of the Breezies, scattering some of them off from the main group and cementing Spike as the series' butt-monkey. -_-

Thankfully, Fluttershy catches the fragile bugs in mid-air, but not before the other group floats out of sight, unable to fight the breeze or else ruin the pollen they are carrying. (And no, we never find out WHY the breezie magic keeps it fresh or WHY the breezies need the pollen in the first place) Naturally, the pegasus takes the shaken-up bug ponies into her home in order to help them recover from their ordeal, but the only one of the group who can speak Equish/Equestrian, Seabreeze, tells Flutters that they are FINE and are just lazy do-for-nothing idiots. Applejack and Twilight come to check on things, but Fluttershy says they need a bit more time, telling us that she obviously finds them too cute to let go. The Breezies lounge and relax and take advantage of Fluttershy while Seabreeze admonishes her that unless they get going, they will NEVER get home because the portal will close and trap them in the inhospitable Equestria. However, Fluttershy keeps pushing it back, making the vocal Breezie more and more irritable until, finally, he decides to go for it on his own, breeze be damned! 'Shy notices and goes after him in the nick of time as he runs afoul of a hive of bees that nearly kill him for accidentally flying into their hive.

At first, she tries to talk gently to the bees, but when they will having nothing of it, she almost whips out The Stare with her level of assertion and makes them retreat. Seabreeze asks why she didn't just snap at them before, to which Fluttershy says she only did it because there was no other way to make them go and that being mean ought to be the last resort, to which the Breezie says that unless she is firm with his peers, they will continue to take advantage. Fluttershy returns home and gets right of the Breezies, but there is a problem: the pegasi can't get the breeze just right because there are so few of them. Twilight comes up with a solution though; she turns the Mane Six INTO BREEZIES in order to give them the right numbers and they go with the breezies to their homeland where they are reunited with their friends, and wife and kid in Seabreeze's case. That makes sense. Anyway, he gives her a flower that becomes Fluttershy's key, Twi changes the girls back into ponies after narrowly leaving the dimension thingy. The end.

If you think Rarity is being too flashy now, then you have seen nothing yet. *Ba-dum-pish!*

The Breezies. Not a lot is said of their culture or their world, but the accent sounds like it is from around the Scandinavian region. I love their design compared to the G3 Breezies, who look like ponies with flutter wings and antennae. These ones look genuinely insect-like with the long legs, beady eyes and large wingspan. Still, that's all I can say because they are never EXPLAINED! Why do they go to Western Equestria for Pollen? Why do they have to use the breeze to make the magic necessary to keep the pollen from spoiling? (Well... Seabreeze DOES admit that HE don't know that one either) Why does the pollen spoil? Why do they NEED the pollen in the first place? Do they live in an alternate dimension, or do they literally live in an isolated cave? Want answers to these questions? Tough sh*t unless you want to make a headcanon.

Hey, look, Fluttershy has Angry Birds! *Ba-dum-pish* Now, if only they had green Pigs in Equestria...

Second thing to talk about in this episode is the new spell we see Twilight use. The POSSIBILITIES this raises are near ENDLESS. If Rainbow Dash can ask if she can be turned into a Griffon or Dragon right off the bat, imagine what it can do with some thought! I mean, Twilight doesn't outright say any of them are impossible; just that she doesn't, understandably, want a Griffon Dash or Dragon Dash running about Ponyville. I mean, theoretically, she could turn a pony into almost anything and it would NOT be temporary (since she dispelled it at WILL rather than a timer going out). Heck, she could do the inverse like several Spirarity fics having Spike go Pony to get Rarity. (I don't like that ship, BTW) I really want to see if this spell is used again, and if so, for what purpose.

Angel remembers the Parasprites, but never did they have the stone to sleep in HIS bed!

Like and dislikes now. I loved the little faces and animation details that when into the episode, like how Rainbow wasn't QUITE sure Fluttershy knew what she was doing, or even the fact that, when Seabreeze went missing the first place Fluttershy checked was under her hoof. There was also the Doctor Whooves with the 3D glasses and Roseluck cameos. Oh, and there was also Flutterbee and the look of surprise one of the bees had RIGHT before we got to see it. Boy, Fluttershy sure is wiggling her tush about a lot this season. Naturally, I also liked the Breezie Six and the design of the Breezie homeland, not to mention that new spell and it's fancy animation. I also LOVED Seabreeze being a new father as the reason why he was so anxious to get home before the portal closed.

Sadly, I did not like how little things about the Breezies were explained. I mean, they probably could have shaved off a couple of seconds here or there for a little exposition, but nope! They're leaving up to the fans here. And then there was butt-monkey Spike. WHY did he need to knock the leaf off and not just have it, I don't know, come off by itself to spare the poor drake. I also thought we'd have a Games Ponies Play/Just for Sidekicks thing going on with the episode taking place during Fluttershy's expedition during the Discord episode. Not that this detracts, but it subverted my expectations a little in a somewhat strange way. That said, there was no a lot to dislike about this episode.

I'm so glad I did a marathon of the New Series previous to The Day of the Doctor in order to get this joke. Go get that voidy-stuff, Doctor!

Now, I am going to call it. Applejack's key will pop up in Leap of Faith. After that, we will just need Twilight's Key (in the finale, naturally) and the season will be complete. And for this episode, well, if you were to turn me into a Breezie and lock me in their dimension forever, I'd rate this episode an easy 85/100! It suffers from a little lack of exposition and continuing the trend of making Spike look like an incompetent idiot, but on the whole, it was a fun, great episode that I would watch again for my own enjoyment. Now, I just need to figure out what to use as my ending image: Flutterbee or Breezie Six.

Next week, Applebloom spends the day at home and has one of those accident-prone days. Most sisters would shrug this off, but Applejack decides to watch over her sister endlessly to make sure she is okay. But Applebloom can't take "Having Somepony to Watch Over Me". Will her sister learn that being overbearing is just as bad as being neglectful? Until then, this is Ciroton saying, "Down with Big Sister!"

I WENT WITH BOTH! MWAHAHAHAHAHA~!

Oh, and thank you for increasing my rating of this episode from average to pretty good^^

Seabreeze is one of those unexpected characters that has surprising depth once you get the whole story. It's a punch to the gut to our expectations once we learn of his motivations.

Cute episode. I'm really looking forward now to how AJ's key will be delivered.

I'm almost surprised to find someone actually liked the episode. For me it was just a blatant attempt at shoving more pony toys down little girls' throats. :facehoof:

I mean come on! This episode robbed Fluttershy of her special realization moment needed for the key in order to prolong that silly farce until they needlessly transformed the 6 harmony bearers into new model toys. For no frickin' reason whatsoever (which, coincidentally, is the only explanation for 99% of the facts presented in the episode :facehoof:)! Seriously? I always thought DHX writers could do better. :facehoof:

To quote a legendary phrase: it was a bad episode and you should feel bad when watching it! :rainbowwild:

//needless rant is needless; sorry :pinkiesad2:

Calm down there, your Antony C is showing. Also; opinions. People have different ones, so suck it. :derpytongue2:

wow, I did not expect you to like it so much. you are fair and critical at the same time with your reviews, and a lot of guys are torn between this episode.

personally.......... I greatly agree with all you said. the breezies I enjoyed in design, they are not unpleasant jerks or anything...... but we needed more lore to it.
exactly what are they capable of? is their powers reliant on meeting certain factors and, when they are met, are they actually pretty powerful magically? the likely created that little portal entrance to isolate themselves for most of the year (unlikely that portal would enver open again, just not for a long, long time), so they probably have something. and seabreeze did cause his own atenna to glow.
in equistria there is a lot of evidence supporting that some beings have their magic manifest in certain ways. cutie mark related magic for example. discord is another example as, while his powers seem very broad, his powers is chaos. couldn't make himself not sick, which would be healing himself.

over analyzing faries and draconequs aside, I can infer some things. it is less the pollen going bad I think and more it would dispurs, since it is so light. and they need it because they closed themselves off to protect themselves and probably artificially pollinate their plants.

bt that is only inferred and they needed to actually explain it in the show. just a few sentences. like cupcake asking
"Why do they need the pollen?"
"Oh, they need it because they live in a magically sealed cave. They are very small creatures, though they have a lot of magic, especially when they ride in breezes. They need the pollin to keep their plants healthy."

and the fandom would rejoice and not be as divided, case those reasons are a major criticism.

Another fine review as usual.

One thing I have to say though is: BATS!

Why "Bats!"? Flutterbat of course. I'm totally calling out that episode in its needless contrived use of "Oh, I found this in a book!" when she could of, oh I don't know... CREATED the spell herlself?

Think about it, Twilight got ascended because she was able to create a new spell, more like finish one but still, it's no different from Sakura in Card Captors and how she was later granted ownership of the Clow Card and would go on to create her very own, and very first, Clow Card.

Twilight Sparkle, having put two and two together for us in that fancy magical chart of hers basically explained how her spell had been able take the essences of what made the Vampire Fruit Bats that mutated/morphed Fluttershy into Flutterbat!

I call 100% horseapples on the excuse Twilight somehow 'found' the spell in such detail in a JOURNAL of all things. Possible, maybe, but it sure didn't sound like the type of thing one would keep as a magical textbook.

Twilight learned what she did wrong during Bats! and went on to experiment to see if she could recreate something like it and combine it with her ability to transform objects she's done a couple times in past seasons already. Transformation spells aren't knew to Twilight, but now she had Alicorn level energies that can help her easily control her magic with how much reserves she must have to do 6 transformations AND going all transformers and scanning objects to take the shape of.

Twilight is OP and I love it. I thought that line she gave of where she learned it was at best her excuse to not let her friends know she was experimenting with such spells again. But really, I was just thinking how dumb it was for the show staff to forget they even made Bats! or how she had been doing transformation spell practices since S1 and S3.

I wonder whatever did befell that Oranged Frog. And didn't Twilight zapp a bird too? :P I forgot.

Oh, prediction for next week? Apple Bloom runs into the Everfree Forest and goes to Twilight's soon to be castle where she'll become the most daring of daring ponies... okay not really, she'll just discover Zecora in the place and learn a lesson to be thankful she has ponies to watch over her and accept that Applejack just want what's best for her.

Or: Trixie returns to teach Apple Bloom to be more appreciative of family and not do what she did and run away from those who think you aren't 'ready' or able to face the world.

Hoping for a Trixie return this season, but I feel they effectively killed her off last season. =(

.......I can forsee into the future about somepony to watch voer me.

you are sooooo gonna rip it a new one.

it is actually the first episode I did nto like. shall await to see if our notes on it was similar.
