I'm sad. I always liked your stories, and it bugs me that I'll probably never know exactly why you left.
Nothing "doing it" for you post Season 1, really, eh? Well the first cut is the deepest, but some of us like to progress up the vein and bleed it out. I generally dislike or am apathetic toward the fandom these days. The show is still entertaining to me, and entertainment is all I ask of it, though it is nowhere near as high on my priorities as it used to be (Attack on Titan fills my thoughts and Warframe fills my time). I still like the fics I like (so please never delete your stories) but it's harder to find fics that fail to piss me off.
The fandom is what it is to whom it is that to so to you, adieu and thank you.
(But you are a really fucking good writer so if you ever want to exercise that side of your creativity, that would be nice.)

God speed, you magnificent bastard. Had a hell of a run, you wrote a story that pretty much anchored one specific relationship as the most popular here. You had it printed and people bought physical copies of it (I'm not one of them because I'm still in stealth mode years later unfortunately). That can't be undone. You left a positive impact here and that's a lot to say.
Also, List is still my default "Hey, I'm wrecked on opiates, I wanna read something fluffy!" story. But good luck, you've got talent as a writer. Maybe someday I'll be reading some novel and see a wry reference to this site and List and I'll laugh my ass off and never be able to explain it to people around me.

It's what it says at the top: making it official. Taking de facto absence for a de jure one. I figured I should probably let people know for certain instead of just disappearing. I didn't bother with a long screed because >cellphone and because I didn't want to be "that guy". Also didn't think anyone would give a damn about my own personal feelings about the show and the fic-fandom. But people seem to want an explanation, so here we are.
It's a mix of a few things. First off: I do not like the show anymore. I think they've run it into the ground and turned it from something unique into just another mediocre cartoon. All of the characters are flatter with less depth (when they are even characterized at all.) If i want to watch a subpar cartoon, I have ones that never were good so I'm not judging new episodes based on how amazing the old ones were. Secondly: I pretty much loath FimFic. Between the circlejerk/echo chamber effects and the weariness of dealing with yet another shitty story, I haven't bother to really read anything in six months or so. Everytime I see something that sounds interesting, it either has all the effort of a particularly unloved facebook status update put into it or it turns into some 13 year-old's idea of "edgy". I could claim that my limited time plays a part, but it probably only kept me from posting this earlier. This can sort of be extended to the fandom as a whole. There's very little I see that really is anything like the show I fell in love with. A few tumblrs, a few random comics seem to be inspired by the precepts of the show, but most of them are exactly what I see the show as now: generic, with horses.
To clear up another thing: this isn't sudden for me. I didn't wake up and decide I was done. I just stopped over the course of the last year. And yes, it was Season 3 that killed the bit of me that cared about the show. S4 was too mediocre to revive it and then that PoS fluttershy episode was aired and I knew that the staff either didn't give a fuck or just lacked the leadership/ability to duplicate their earlier success. I tried to keep on, but just lost interest. If the people making the show can't keep their own canon/characters straight, then there isn't really a point in caring.
Fimfic. Yeah, others have said it before. Just take any other rage blog about echo chamber or child horse porn and add all the typical reason normal people hate fanfiction and you've got my feelings on the subject. Compound it with the fact that I really cared. But fixing the fandom is beyond me and I stopped trying.

1893232 I'm with you on your reasons for leaving, nothing "new" has really come up in a long time that I've seen. I was really attracted to the sheer oddity of the initial fandom and then kinda stayed. But now that we've reached meta - stability all the "big names" burned out and left.
And I look forward to reading something in the future with "LOL HORSE WORDS" in the middle of the last, otherwise blank, page.

I do agree with you on all points other than the show (S2> S4> S1> S3 for me) and that I enjoy fan content that is not completely in the spirit of the show as long as it is not antithetical to the show's or my values.

Well sad to see you go of course. Your stories were excellent and I thought you had some fun artwork as well.
I can understand your feelings as I have felt them in to different degrees. I have noticed that I have a lot less interest in a lot of stories here. Part of that is that when I first started I had a bunch of back logged storeis to get through while now I only have new stories to read. It doesn't help that PinkiDash is not at its biggest right now. Sadly since you are one of the big boosters for that is even less likely to change.
I also feel similar to the show to a lesser degree. I still enjoy it but right now most episodes are just entertaining rather than being full of wonder. One reason for that might be all the holes filled in by episodes leaving more episodes to being formulaic as they no longer need a lot of new material to keep it going. Still it does give me a Pinkie's Pride type episode that keeps me happy and every once in a while I find a new story to read. Enough to keep me around but leaves me not as excited.
The comics help I admit.

I just want to say that you are the only author with two stories within my top lists, so thank you for that. I guess it is a bit different for me since I always thought the show was pretty bad, but I must say that this fandom does have some pretty good writing, if a bit hard to find sometimes. I wish you the best and hope you'll have plenty of good reads in the future.
