Death Note: Equestria and the Future of MLP · 10:43pm Feb 17th, 2014

Warning: The following blog post contains spoilers both for future episodes of the show and recent chapters of Death Note: Equestria. You have been warned.

So, I normally don't keep up with spoilers for future episodes. In fact, I'm pretty bad at keeping up with the show at all; still haven't seen Filli Vanilli. (Is it any good? No, don't tell me.) But every so often, I pick up an episode synopsis just to see, and it turns out that sometime this season, one of Pinkie Pie's sisters will make an appearance. Which presents a problem for me, as one of said sisters has a role in an upcoming chapter, and I have always tried to stick to established canon. Of course the show evolves, but if I go through with the plot as planned, then for the first time I risk directly, and intentionally, contradicting something that happens in the real Friendship is Magic.

But then I realized: Wait a minute. I've already made Twilight Sparkle into a supernatural killer, Fluttershy into her accomplice, Rarity into a former secret agent, Rainbow Dash into a trainee computer technician, Applejack into a criminal mastermind, Big Macintosh into a cold-blooded sociopath, Colgate into a policemare, Lyra into a brainwashed detective, Bon Bon into a changeling, Linky into a sex-starved spy, Ace into a jerk, put Spike through delayed puberty, secretly killed a ton of characters, and given Celestia and Luna even darker backstories than they already had. And that's not even getting into Near and co. And I'm worried about following canon with Pinkie Pie!?

So no, I'm not worrying about that too much. But if you'll notice, the title of this isn't MLP and the future of Death Note: Equestria. Instead, this has got me thinking about something else. See, while I've been making efforts to casually keep things in line with the show, more and more I'm getting the impression that the show is making efforts to keep in line with me. On multiple occasions, DN:E has accidentally been the predictor for not just details, but major events over the course of the show. What say we take a moment to review?

1. The Crystal Empire. Right off the bat, DN:E jumped ahead two seasons with the introduction of crystal tech. While no stratoscreens or crystal communicators have shown up in canon, the idea of crystal power turned up in the very first episode, and the ongoing stealth edit finally connects this to canon. Not that this would have been a surprise to me if I'd paid any attention to the toy line.

2. Fluttershy has a dark side. Her foal-killing debut in chapter 14 was published one day before Putting Your Hoof Down aired. Lucky break for me, and earned me some respect for my apparent precognitive powers.

3. Changelings. This was the big one. It's not as evident in the first season, since I didn't have a name for them yet, but Bon Bon was always a changeling. Even if I hadn't pegged her as a shape-shifting bug, she had always been an integral part of L's treatment, with powers over the mind that no normal pony possessed. It's funny how sometimes the perfect answer to your puzzle just falls right into your own lap.

4. Shining Armour. Indirectly, but still. This was an era when just about everyone had their own version of the "captain of the royal guard" but I made sure to specifically split Straw Bolt into being the head of his own unit because I knew, I just knew, that a canon captain would turn up sooner or later. I'm glad I did it. SB's more interesting when he's not in charge.

5. The Castle of the Two Pony Sisters is built over a hidden cave. Granted, in my version it's been repurposed as a golem lair, but I'm still counting this one. Called it!

6. Celestia grants princesshood to those who prove their worth. This is cheating a bit, since it hasn't been referenced in-story yet, but it's enormously significant for reasons that won't make sense for a long while. Suffice to say Celestia's motivations are a little more complex than she's letting on.

That's all I've got for now. Certainly just coincidences, but it's still fun to think about. Heck, maybe I'll predict a Pie sister soon. Who can say?

Chapter 33 is coming. If you're interested in proofreading, let me know.

Eather a uncanny coincidence (albeit a creepy one) or Your GOOOOOOOOOD proof reading huh.....interesting (but I'm mainly suggesting to get a sneak peek sorry)

1846313 and another thing about the latest episode Filli Vanilli all im gonna say is its mostly funny butthe "life lesson" of the ep is Suprisingly Deep

I think its so cool when this sort of thing happens. Of course, the all time great example were the magical bubble shields from Fallout Equestria. I had already freaked out when Twi did it in Ponyville Confidential and Return of Harmony, so my jaw crashed through the floor during The Royal Wedding. xD

#2 is a reach tho c'mon lol. The Gala was the birth of Flutterbitch anyway. :flutterrage:
