Happy discount candy day · 2:28am Feb 16th, 2014
Since I'm not working at my irl job today, I should be working on the story. And I am. With frequent breaks to look at cool things on the internet, usually stemming from my googleing of various references that I include in the story. For instance, did you know the Soviet Union had an Order of Friendship of People's? I didn't. Apparently they also had a medal for women who had six living children, then an even better medal for women who had ten living children. It's almost like the Soviet Union pioneered the achievements we now see in video games, but in real life.
Not only was today auspicious because of the discount candy, including cherry flavoured M&M's, but my flooring arrived today. A few weeks ago my parents visited my new house, and to make a long story short, they caused a pipe to burst, soaking a large percentage of the existing carpet in the downstairs of my new domicile. So I went out an purchased a few hundred feet of bamboo flooring, just to make sure the mold doesn't get me. I apparently need to let it sit indoors for a week or so for it to acclimate to the temperature and humidity in my house so that it doesn't swell or contract alarmingly once it's put down. A process that I shall embark upon over the next few weekends. It will likely take a while since we're about to receive a couple of SGI racks, so we want to get them up and running asap, therefore my free time will be somewhat curtailed for the next little while. But it's going to be awesome to have such a large smp system. We have a lot of codes that still are using openmp and haven't made the jump to mpi yet, so hopefully they'll get a boost from the new system.
As far as side B goes, it's actually fairly far along. I'm probably about 3/4 of the way through typing it, and there are only two more scenes that I need to do extensive work on, one which I need to rewrite, and one that I need to actually sit down and write since its one that I came up only the other day and doesn't appear in the initial outline. I think the story will be better for it though. Side B is predominately told from Twilight's pov, with the exception of the scene I just mentioned, which will be another discussion between Luna and Celestia. Most likely dealing with contraceptive options.
In other news, I've been listening to a lot of Rise Against, who I highly recommend. If you're into that sort of music at least. I've also broken out my Metallica records, and I've noticed that the sound on reload isn't all that great. I'll have to see if they have a 180g version, and if the sound is any better on it. Speaking of which, I saw Through the Never in imax 3d a while ago, and thanks to the imax sound system, it was amazing. I just saw that they released it on blu-ray, and I'm not sure if I'll pick it up. My sound system at home is okay, but I only really like the movie as a concert video, and I can pretty much listen to all the songs on it off of other albums. I'll probably still get it, but it won't be a must buy for a while.
Now that I see you, I need to tell you this: go watch the latest MLP episode, I know you pretty much don't watch the show anymore, but damn if a recent episode screams "season 1" is this, in more ways that you can think of.
Here, so you don't have to look for it (or an excuse not to watch it ):
Believe me when I say this: This one really evokes the spirit of the show that originally brought us all in.

I like it. Although, the plot reminds me a little of an old movie I saw years ago back when AMC ran movies from the '40s and '50s. I totally forget the name of it, but it starts out with a woman trying to check into a hotel but it's booked up, so she just appropriates a name from the register for people who haven't check in yet. It happens to be the name of an up and coming singer who she is mistaken for. Then for some reason that I don't really remember, the real singer and the woman who took her name to get a room for the nigh collude so that everyone thinks the other woman is the singer, going so far as to do a few shows where the singer hides herself backstage and under tables with a microphone while the other woman lip-syncs on stage. Eventually the pretend singer's concious gets the better of her and she reveals to everyone, including talent scouts, who the real talent is.
I really like the name of the episode, and I wonder how many small girls get it. I own Milli Vanilli's greatest hits, and it includes the bonus extended track. Girl you know its, girl you know its, girl you know its ...

It really was a good episode, the best of this season so far a much better than the Weird Al Yakovich(?) one that had everyone clapping like seals.
As for the plot, it's kinda common actually, I know that I have seen it at least a couple of times either in cartoons or other tv shows, just can't name them though.
Also, the tittle had a meaning? Ah the burdens of the cultural barrier...
Oh god oh god discussion of the new episode that I haven't seen yet in the comments--avoid avoid!
phew
Well, anyway, hope you had a happy singles awareness day! I know I sure did. I'm glad writing has been going so well; I feel ashamed I haven't read the new chapter yet, but I'm saving it for when I've got the time to sit down and read it all in one go (I'm a slow reader) and really enjoy and get absorbed into it like I want to. Plus, I need to skim through the last chapter to refresh myself on all the details, which, by the way, isn't just because it's been a while; I have to refresh myself even with stories that update over a couple of weeks. With the number that I read things tend to get muddled and all mixed up in my head.
So your parents burst a water pipe, eh? I'm sure that was fun; reminds me of the time my mom ran into our old well-box and caused a geyser of water to shoot up twenty feet into the air. Unfortunately, I wasn't there to see it, but I was told it was quite the spectacle. Anyway, I hope you like your bamboo flooring; I didn't know it needed to acclimate to your house's environment, but I suppose it makes sense. I bet pulling up the old carpet was quite the job.
Are SGI racks like servers or something?
Hm, as far as I know, Nazi Germany also had a medal, called the Mother's Cross, for women who had a certain number of children. I wonder who got the idea first.
Sucks about your carpet, though.
And about the music, two things: First of all, you have not heard Rise Against until you've heard Hero of War sung by a drunk roommate in a youth hostel at four in the morning.
Secondly, about Through the Never... do they play No Leaf Clover?
And totally, tooootally unrelated to you or your story, on a scale from one to
happily married for all eternity with lots of little alicorn foalsElysium, how happy do you like your story endings?
