The Sockument of Pony Gear Solid: The Next Chapter Will Be Two Hours Long... · 7:13am Feb 6th, 2014
...two hours to read, that is, not to play. Frickin' Ground Zeroes.
I want to apologize for the delay in getting this next chapter out; I haven't slipped into old habits, I promise. The fact is, this chapter came out much, much longer than I thought it would be going into it. The rough draft clocked in at nearly the same length as the previous chapter. And I have a disproportionate amount of time to work on it, now, versus the amount of time that needs to go into making it presentable.
One of the main reasons for the length? Well, the truth is, when planning the story, I had no role assigned to Luna at all. When working on the chapters in the castle, however, I realized (and Miffy the Pre-Reading Cat reinforced this realization) that Luna would have to be a moron to not notice something like the demolition of a significant ruin in a sensitive location. So I wrote her into the end of the last chapter, and that necessitated writing her into this one. And THAT necessitated enlarging her role in the grand scheme of things.
A number of reviewers seemed excited at the prospect of Luna entering the story, and I feel that I owe it to them to pay off the amount of hype that I accidentally stirred up. There's a key scene in this chapter that I've written specifically for Luna and I want to get it right. I think it's one that people will enjoy. No, she does not wear socks. Stop asking me to put socks into the story. However, it's fairly long and involved, and it seriously inflates the word count.
Besides that, this chapter is very, very character-heavy, driven more by dialogue than action. I have a handle on most of it, but one scene in particular I'm re-writing from top to bottom. I don't think I'll wind up doing that for any of the other scenes in the chapter, but the future's a dark and scary thing, and even I can't say for sure what'll happen in it.
You know what I can say, for sure, will not happen in it, though?
Socks.

Long lost member of the Cobra Unit, and the true legend of their ranks: The Socks. Some force greater than the Patriots erased the Socks from history, so in no historically relevant situation can even the Socks' namesake play a part.
Let's just say that's why socks aren't in this story.

At that length they could have just said screw the game and made it the Metal Gear Movie we're all interested in. Now a two hour game in and of itself not bad keep in mind they're making it a download title. But a two hour game for thirty bucks? Come on the Bravely Default demo was longer then that AND free.
