Hey Everypony, guess what? I've been invited to BABScon, to do a writing panel sort of thing! Neat, huh? :D
Only problem is, I sort of live paycheck-to-paycheck--- in MN. The con is in San Fransisco, in California. I dunno how I'm gonna get there, or pay for anything.
Do you guys have any ideas? I hate to just beg for money, but a crowd-funding thing might be a thought.
The convention is in April, but I'm drawing a blank on finding the means to attend and do my super writer person thing.
Thoughts? :(
Edit: Looks like I will need roughly $906. That doesn't include spending money or anything. Its just to fly me there and feed me. I think I'm going to set up a PayPal account, run writing commissions and such, and see what spins out. I might make it, who knows! Donations via paypal just might work, given the number of people that follow my writing here on FIMfiction. I'll let you guys know when its set up and such, if you feel like kicking a few dollars my way. I'd really like to attend and speak on the writer's panel! :)
Ya' know, I really hate to be the one to say this, but if you can't go, you can't go.
But, if it really is something that you need to do, then a group fundraiser may be the only way.
Maybe do some commissions, like artists? Writing is an art form and you sir are quite skilled at what you do.

Don't think of it as 'begging', you're asking if people would be willing to pay for you to attend this convention, with the proviso that if you don't get offered enough, you won't go.
Sounds just like any other celebrity appearance, really.
Bronies tend to be pretty generous so donations might just get you there, how much would you need for the trip?

1800607 I'm still crunching numbers for a plane/hotel/food. I've been told if I come up with a finite number people might consider, instead of regular "fundraising".

While it is an honor I would suggest not going if you can't afford it. Remember it's not cost of transportation it also lodging, entry fees, food, and loot.
But if you do go, see if the organizers can wave the fees, check for deals, and fly Southwest. And as the others said, ask for donations or do commissions.
Hmm... sorry you got me curious, let's see Minneapolis to SF would be between 190 and 250 one way... yeah you are going need to do a lot of thinking about this

That's actually a good plan, goodness knows I had to do that the times I've flown between Austin and Minneapolis (and then including gas from there to Ely)
Find someone going to BABScon in MN,
Do a stream or something with donations to raise money or something and a fund raiser or maybe ask a mate to help you if you write a commission chapter one-shot for people

Yeah that seems doable, and you got about two and half months before the con. Though getting your flights should be a priority since costs will go up the closer you get to the 18th.

I don't know what kind of 'benefits' you'll get for being invited to the Con, but try talking to the people in charge. See if they can help you out, you'll never know for certain until you ask.
Even if the Con itself can't help, maybe they'll point you to someone who can.
1801645 Yeah I asked, they don't have any scholarship programs or anything. If you get invited you get a three day pass for free, but nothing to help you get there.
I hope to see you there, and a crowd funding thing could work.
