Friendship is Card Games: Pinkie Pride · 7:19pm Feb 2nd, 2014

I am a fan of, among other things, "Weird Al" Yankovic. The first CD I owned was his Running with Scissors, and it would several years before I procured anything by any other artist.
Pinkie Pie is, to me, tied with Twilight for best member of the Mane Six, as my personality falls somewhere between the two. Thus, they are the two to whom I can most relate and find easiest to write. (I'm aware that this says quite a lot about me, especially given their rather fragile sanity, both in canon and in my work.)
Given these factors, I was coming into this episode with rather high hopes.

I was not disappointed by any stretch of the imagination. That it was a musical episode, complete with a dueling polka medley, was an unexpected but exquisite delight. Now, let's get some cards for the polka genius man:

Stream of Streamers XW
Instant
Lifelink
Stream of Streamers deals X damage to target attacking or blocking creature.
Party cannon technology can be applied to purely magical decorating methods, with mixed results.

"Pinkie the Party Planner" U
Enchantment — Song
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a verse counter on "Pinkie the Party Planner".
U, Sacrifice "Pinkie the Party Planner": Scry X, then draw a card, where X is the number of verse counters on "Pinkie the Party Planner".

"Make a Wish" 1UU
Enchantment — Song
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a verse counter on "Make a Wish".
Exile "Make a Wish": You may choose a nonland card you own with converted mana cost X or less from outside the game, reveal that card, and put it into your hand, where X is the number of verse counters on "Make a Wish".

"Pinkie's Lament" 1UU
Enchatment — Song
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a verse counter on "Pinkie's Lament".
1U, Sacrifice "Pinkie's Lament": Tap up to X target creatures, where X is the number of verse counters on "Pinkie's Lament". Those creatures don't untap during their controller's next untap step.

Role Model 3U
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant creature
Other creatures you control have enchanted creature's activated abilities.
Inspiration is the sincerest form of charity.

Superior Simulacrum 4U
Creature — Shapeshifter
You may have Superior Simulacrum enter the battlefield as a copy of any creature on the battlefield with an additional +1/+1 counter on it.
"No matter how good you get, there's always somepony better. Don't just try to be the best. Be you."
—Trixie Lulamoon, traveling showmare

Prismatic Recoil 3B
Sorcery
Target player discards a card for each color among permanents you control.
Pinkie gasped, horrified by her own actions. This was not what partying was about. This did not expand fun.

Cheesy Sense RR
Sorcery
Target player reveals the top card of his or her library. Add an amount of R to your mana pool equal to that card's converted mana cost.
Parties send waves of joy and passion rippling across time, resonating with those sensitive enough to detect them.

Balloon Support 2R
Sorcery
Destroy target nonbasic land.
"Weird. It works for bounce houses."
—Pinkie Pie, Bearer of Laughter

Origin of Hee Hees 2R
Enchantment
Whenever a creature untaps, that creature's controller adds R to his or her mana pool.
Pinkie parties have inspired some of the greatest party ponies of all time.

Goof-Off 2RRR
Enchantment
Vanishing 5
Whenever a player casts a silver-bordered spell, that player gains control of Goof-Off.
When Goof-Off is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, if it had no time counters on it, you win the game. (The player who controlled Goof-Off controls this ability.)

Super Duper Pony Party 8RRR
Sorcery
Cast Super Duper Pony Party only during your precombat main phase.
Untap all creatures. Gain control of those creatures until end of turn. They gain haste until end of turn. At the beginning of your next main phase, untap all creatures you control. After that main phase there is an additional combat phase followed by an additional main phase.

Big Budget 1G
Enchantment
As an additional cost to cast spells, you may pay 2. If you do, that spell can't be countered by spells or abilities.
"You can't buy fun. Now, the implements of fun…"
—Cheese Sandwich

Get Real 1G
Instant
Kicker 1G
Destroy all Auras attached to target creature. If Get Real was kicked, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature for each Aura destroyed this way.
"The strength of illusions is itself an illusion. True power lies in recognizing and accepting reality as it is."
—Nissa Revane

Hippopotamount 2GG
Creature — Hippo
Islandwalk
Whenever Hippopotamount attacks, you may have target attacking creature gain islandwalk until end of turn.
Pony rides hold no attraction for ponies, so party planners branch out.
3/3

Cheese Clogs 2
Artifact — Equipment
Equipped creature has silver-bordered landwalk.
Whenever equipped creature attacks, you gain 3 life.
Equip 2
"And to think, ponies laughed at my emergency edible boots."
—Rarity, Bearer of Generosity

Backup Chicken 2
Artifact
Whenever another artifact is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may pay 1. If you do, Backup Chicken becomes a copy of that artifact and gain this ability.
"Rubber chickens: almost as useful as towels."
—Pinkie Pie, Bearer of Laughter

Extradimensional Saddlebags 3
Artifact
You have no maximum hand size.
3, T: Untap target creature.
Most ponies buy paint in cans. Pinkie Pie is not most ponies.

Siege Partillery 7
Artifact Creature — Construct
Whenever Siege Partillery deals combat damage to a player, it deals that much damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures that player controls.
"Let's spread some cheer!"
—Cheese Sandwich
4/4

Surgical Cupcake 1RW
Instant
Damage can't be prevented this turn. You gain 1 life for each 1 damage that would have been prevented this turn.
"Well, they always make me feel better."
—Pinkie Pie, Bearer of Laughter

Polka Power 2R(wu)
Sorcery
Untap target enchantment. You gain control of that enchantment until end of turn. It gains haste until end of turn. This turn, you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to activate that enchantment's activated abilities.

Only the Best 2UB
Sorcery
As an additional cost to cast Only the Best, sacrifice a creature.
Gain control of target creature with the greatest converted mana cost among creatures on the battlefield.

Temporal Excision 2UB
Instant
Return target permanent to its owner's hand. That player exiles a card from his or her hand.
"That's weird. I thought I only had two sisters."
—Pinkie Pie, Bearer of Laughter

Cheese Sandwich 3WB
Legendary Creature — Pony Advisor
Sources you control deal damage as though they had lifelink.
"I'm here to plan parties and play the accordion. And I forgot my accordion."

I have no idea what kinds of disgusting things people are doing in Legacy nowadays, but "Make A Wish" seems like the kind of thing that would enable them. It's the kind of card that's okay if you're playing fair, but broken otherwise, so they cost it at 3UU to tone down the brokenness, and then it sucks. (Also, I guess "Make A Wish" is technically a different card name than Make A Wish, but that's pushing it. :trixieshiftright:)

Polka Power probably wants split second.

It's hardly my fault that the name of the song happens to coincide with the name of a card. I work with what I'm given. And if there's a difference between flamekin and flame-kin, then quotation marks are a perfectly cromulent means of differentiating cards.
As for the mechanic, "Make a Wish" is based on the other kind of wish spell in Magic. In tournament play, you're not allowed to choose any card in your collection, only the ones in your sideboard.

As for Polka Power, while Songs can be sacrificed in response, those are hardly the only valid targets. Remember, you can steal gods with the power of polka!

I could have a torrid love affair with Super Duper Pony Party. Insurrection stapled to a Relentless Assault. Beautiful.

Been a fan of "Weird Al", from right around the same time as you, when Running with Scissors dropped. Typically don't like spoilers, but when I heard he was the co-focus of a Pinkie episode, I stood right up, got a microwave tan, hopped on the bus, and rode on down to Albuquerque to pick up a cheeseburger with onions.

References are fun.

Xenagos is the God of Revels, after all. Or was, his title seems to be in some serious jeopardy. You are now picturing Mogis dancing while wearing a party hat and swinging a giant goblet of (non-alcoholic) punch around, happily not slaughtering anything. Xenagos is feverishly taking notes for fear of losing his divinity.

I would play Origin of Hee Hees with Upwelling in basically every Commander deck that could reliably have more than two creatures out to untap.

I may have to use "siege partillery" in a fic at some point. Not the Magic card, just the phrase.

Get real needs some flavor text. It really feels like it needs it.

Props to Weird Al - that sincerely was Epic! :rainbowdetermined2:
Not to mention that I think it just set the new record for # songs in 1 Ep (any cartoon for that matter) :moustache:

You may have inspired a rather surreal chapter of Sideboard of Harmony there. :pinkiehappy:

Five cakes rapid, fire for effect.

1793675
Did you have something in mind? Nothing came to me.

1797072 Hmmm, Jace saying something like "In Equestria, making things look like the rest of the multiverse is considered terrifying magic. Well I think you look freaky too!"

1797474
Went in a different direction, but I think you'll like what I've done.

(And, if you're wondering, Nissa becomes a deer on Ungula, like any elf.)
