Friendship is Card Games: Pinkie Apple Pie · 4:46pm Jan 12th, 2014

Huh. You know that feeling where you get used to carrying a heavy backpack, and there's this wonderful lightness after you take it off? That's what this episode felt like. Shucking the weight of mediocrity.

Also, apparently Pinkie's duckface and Bloomlicious weren't the only memes to leak into the show. Behold:

This actually happened.

Yeah. Of all the times for the Elements to be in the recharger...

Anyway, time for cards:

Appliance Toss 2W
Instant
As an additional cost to cast Appliance Toss, tap an untapped artifact you control.
Appliance Toss deals damage equal to the tapped artifact's converted mana cost to target attacking or blocking creature.
Sometimes the kitchen sink should be your first option.

Respected Elder 2W
Creature — Pony Elder
X: Put an age counter on Respected Elder if there are exactly X age counters on it.
Respected Elder has protection from converted mana cost X or less, where X is the number of age counters on it.
2/2

Hibernator Snail 3U
Creature — Snail
1U: Exile Hibernator Snail. As long as it's exiled, it has "1U: Return Hibernator Snail to the battlefield under its owner's control."
For something so slow, patience is not a virtue but a necessity.
1/5

Swooping Eagle 3U
Creature — Bird
Flying
1U, T: Return target blue creature to its owner's hand.
It's hard to outwit something that can move faster than thought.
2/2

Chart the Course 4U
Sorcery
Scry X, where X is the number of Islands you control.
Draw a card.
A good navigator can use the land as a tool to tell where to go. A great navigator just asks it for directions.

Crushing Burden 2RR
Sorcery
Attach all Equipment to target creature. Each Equipment deals damage equal to its converted mana cost to that creature. (Control of the Equipment doesn't change.)
Trying to prepare for everything may leave you unable to face anything

Family Feud 2RR
Sorcery
Choose a creature type. Each creature of that type deals 1 damage to each other creature of that type.
There is no worse enemy than someone you have to live with.

Unflappable Cheer 1G
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant creature
Whenever enchanted creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, regenerate it.
Fear and despair scream out, and the joy of life cheers and calls for an encore.

Path of Generations 1GG
Enchantment — Aura
Enchant creature you control
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may put a creature card that shares a creature type with enchanted creature from your hand onto the battlefield. If you do, attach Path of Generations to that creature.

Apple Family Historian 2G
Creature — Pony Advisor
Whenever another Pony creature you control dies, you may draw a card.
Centuries of history. Dozens of heirlooms. Zero equine contact.
2/2

"Apples to the Core" 2G
Enchantment — Song
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a verse counter on "Apples to the Core".
G, Sacrifice "Apples to the Core": Creatures of the creature type of your choice get +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the number of verse counters on "Apples to the Core".

Kitty Clutter 2G
Enchantment
Whenever a player casts an artifact spell, put a 1/1 green Cat creature token onto the battlefield.
Creepy old cat ladies are among the most compelling arguments for the theory of spontaneous generation.

Scroll Tower 3
Artifact
Whenever you draw a card, exile the top card of your library face down.
You may look at cards exiled with Scroll Tower.
3, T: Exile all cards from your hand face down. Put all other cards you own exiled with Scroll Tower into your hand.

Applewood Jalopy 4
Artifact Creature — Construct
1G: Applewood Jalopy gains trample until end of turn.
Sturdy, effective, and unpolished, much like its builders.
3/3

Sugarpine Sap 4
Artifact
X, T, Sacrifice Sugarpine Sap: Return target artifact card with converted mana cost X or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
"It ain't broken until it can't be glued back together."
—Granny Smith

Startling Revelation 1(ur)(ur)
Sorcery
Each player discards any number of cards, then draws that many cards.
One new discovery can lead to a thousand abandoned beliefs.

Ponylicious 3(gw)
Enchantment
Whenever you cast a Pony, Pegasus, or Unicorn spell, you gain life equal to that spell's converted mana cost.
"There is a joy in this plane that I have felt in no other, a contentment with life that only my people seem to embrace."
—Ditzy Doo

Indescribable Horror 3UB
Creature — Horror
Hexproof, intimidate
No language made by mortal mind can hope to describe its horrific visage. Fortunately, Pinkie Pie brought a camera.
2/3

Friends 3GG//Family W
Sorcery//Sorcery
Friends: Put two 2/2 green Pony creature tokens onto the battlefield.
Family: You gain 2 life for each creature of the creature type of your choice on the battlefield.
Fuse

Tunnel of Terror
Land
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
X1, T: Target attacking creature gets -X/-0 until end of turn.
Areas of mind-rending horror are scattered throughout Equestria like bits of onion in a cupcake.

Indescribable Horror doesn't have stats (which is kinda fitting, actually).

Also, I have no idea what's happening or what is featured in the gif: could you help me? :-/

Fixed it as you were reading. The Horror's a 2/3.

As for the gif, watch the right edge carefully. Something with a suit, a tie, and no face is in the bushes.

that was my mind being blown.

Which means you...gave me a mindjob? eww :-P

Respected Elder is really cool, but as written it has no way to gain age counters.

1711075
Sure there is. Let X equal 0 the first time.

1711103
"If there are exactly X age counters on it."
There are zero counters, so I will remain locked at zero. I assume it's meant to say "if there are X or less age counters on it" or something along those lines.

1711313
Let's look at the ability:

"X: Put an age counter on Respected Elder if there are exactly X age counters on it."

As the ability resolves, it counts the number of age counters on the Elder, then compares that to the value of X. If the two are equal, an age counter goes on the Elder. If the Elder has no counters, that's exactly zero, so the first counter costs 0 to put on. This is not the first time this sort of thing has been done in Magic. However, I had to phrase it differently. Otherwise, one could activate the ability for free a million times and turn the card into a pint-sized Progenitus.

Okay, I was reading it as "put X age counters on..." for some reason. As always, I blame sleep (too much or not enough, the important thing is that sleep is somehow to blame)..

There's either an extra word or a missing word in Path of Generations, the possibly extra word being "you," and the possibly missing one being "may" (whichever it is, that card is so broken in changeling decks)
