DARKEST SECRETS FEATURED! · 2:53am
Okay... well maybe just for a couple of minutes... BUT STILL WOOOO FEATURED! I was debating writing another chapter to this, and decided that depending on the response I would make my choice then. Well, I have made my choice, and this is going to turn into a romantic comedy in the next few chapters, but still have the dark and deceptive first chapter.

Did you ever think that your story was going to get featured? I, along with several thousand other authors, always believe that this will happen, but after a few of my own friends wrote stories that they thought were complete shit made it to the featured list, we all just concluded that it was pure dumb luck that you gets you up there.
But hey, we all get our moment in the spotlight at one point or another, right? :)

Well, I knew that it was going to get a quite a few people via the grim/dark Big Mac factor, and also the twist factor. However, I was kinda speculative of it being featured at some moments. Then again, I was pretty confident that a LOT of people would like it. And it's more timing and level of relaxation when you write it. I guess when you try really hard to write a good fic you over do it, to be perfectly honest I don't know. I wrote this in one evening, and then had my buddy go through it for me. As for timing, you gotta get your story in before the rush of people around mid day on weekends. However, you also want to post it just so that about the time it gets published, you have about 900 people looking at it (the high traffic period).

I've been featured twice, and honestly I wasn't expecting it either time.
The first fic I wrote that got featured was a sad flashfic littered with visual and poetic prose. While I was satisfied with the story and felt like it deserved to get featured, I didn't expect it to get featured — fics like that often do not. I believe becoming "featured" is something that every author thinks might happen in the back of their head, but I never really got my hopes up.
The second one that got featured... well, to be blunt I thought was a shitty story. The only reason it made featured was because it was TwiDash and people gobble up TwiDash around these parts
Really, I think getting featured is nearly all about luck. Quality is a plus, but luck is, at least in my experience, the main factor.

I'm with you on the factor of luck. Often at times, some of the best fics that go up get shot down by an onslaught of trolls that come on with their alt accounts and down vote the same story several times (learned that the hard way.
Here's a tip: Be very, very careful about posting in the last hours of EST)
I have a few story ideas that I'm sure will garber up a good bit of attention once I get them started. I just got to where I was by a single romance story that I thought was going to be bombarded by trolls, which managed to escape with only 3 down votes 3 months ago

Ah, the dreaded "thumbs-down" bombers. While I've lucked out and never had any of my stories bombed by trolls, I've witnessed them happen first hand.
