#1: Christmas Happenings – Cowboys, Kiddy Cars and Time Lords · 2:17pm Dec 25th, 2013
This is my first blog entry here on Fimfiction, and I can't think of a better day to start.
It's that special time of the year, Christmas Day, and for me it's the best in a very long time. My brother, who is one of the lead dancers in a pantomime performance of Dick Whittington, has been able to enjoy it at home. He was busy during his birthday earlier this month, and so last night was spent making up for that, and better yet we were also joined by his girlfriend, who is an absolute delight, as well as his three year old son. I tell you, seeing my nephew's eyes light up when he saw the pile of presents around the tree is still the best thing to wake up to in the history of everything. We got him one of those battery-powered cars he can ride around in, and he was so happy with it I didn't even cry when he tore apart the wrapping paper which my brother and I had found such a challenge to sort out. Toys outside their boxes are one of the trickiest things Christmas can hurl at you, I swear! It was great to see him driving about in it. In fact, although it wouldn't have a place here per se, I'd like to write a short story about it and put it up as a separate blog post. If any of my readers are, or know an artist who would be interested in children's story illustrations, let me know. It could be a fun collaborative project.
Adding to the sheer brilliance of this year's celebration is that I got featured over at Equestria Daily!
I'd like to send out a big "Thank you!" to all the readers who were with me from the start and offered me no end of encouragement – Bed Head (who helped convince me to start writing this story in the first place), Cerulean Voice (who helped out a lot by featuring me in one of his write-ups for the Las Pegasus Tribune), CrowMagnon, Flea Candy and Codex (who followed the story before even joining Fimfiction). I'm also grateful to everyone who has joined the quest later down the line – Super_Big_Mac, amacita (who pre-read for Equestria Daily), Crushric (a true gunslinger), CtrlAltDeleteMan, BrownDog77 and Cynewulf – as well as anybody who reads but has not left me a comment. I'd appreciate it if you could, though, because then I can thank you by name. It's all of you people out there who find enjoyment in my work that make it worthwhile, and hopefully this will allow me to share my story with others. It's never too late to go on an adventure, and there'll always be room for more.
Speaking of adventure, as a special treat to coincide with tonight's Doctor Who Christmas special, which will see the conclusion of Matt Smith's three year tenure and the beginning of Peter Capaldi's, I've released the concluding part of the audio drama THE WOODEN PLANET on my YouTube channel a few days earlier than originally planned. Check it out below, or click this link to hear the entire four-part story from the beginning, because my co-producer puts as much of himself into this project as I do into my own work, and the lack of hits is absolutely tragic. He loves his fandom a lot, and as members of another community who spend hours finding new and interesting ways to pay tribute to the stories we love, we can all understand his need to do the same, right? This episode includes music by a talented brony musician, Dominic Brouillard, whose work will continue to be used within the series.
So if there are any Who or even Whooves fans out there, take a few minutes to listen and enjoy the results of his labour. Spread the word, spread the love.
Finally, I'd like to ask my readers to sit tight, because a new chapter of The Country of Roses will be available soon.
Merry Christmas to all!
