Pirene on TV Tropes! · 6:36am Dec 22nd, 2013

Have a look, its own page right here!

I've always wanted to have my own, squee!
I encourage folks to add on to it. I know there's tons more stuff that the original creator hasn't thought of.
I know my editor has gone in and added a few things which are coming up in unpublished chapters. Take those spoiler warnings seriously. :pinkiehappy:

Seriously folks. TV Tropes pages have never been known for being "new reader" friendly. I have removed one particularly central moment in the story that's coming up (for now) from the trope references, but, if you don't want to ruin your day, don't highlight those spoilers.

I found it funny the only prior reference to this story on TV Tropes was in the FanFic recommendations area with the reader having only read chapter 1 noting "and it looks like Daphne will eventually get turned into a pony." Indeed that was a safe bet.

What? Why would you put up spoilers for the unpublished parts? :rainbowhuh:

Awesome that you've got a trope page. I'm seeing a few that don't seem to fit though, or that we can't say fit until further in the story. For example, it's probably a bit early to be calling the Wand King the Big Bad. And you really can't have one character named as the Big Bad and a different one as the Man Behind The Man.

The Wand King has been the driving force behind the antagonists since... what, chapter six? When Amy sneaked away from Phonyville and stumbled upon his meeting with Fetter. She didn't know it at the time, by it wasn't long before his minions and his armies started standing in her way, and it's been him and his prophecy that got Amelia, and consequently Daphne, wrapped up in all this. Now he's also standing in Daphne's way, and Daphne has known for a while now that "the goblins" were responsible for kidnapping Amy. Even if she doesn't know who's running the show, the Big Bad is still the Big Bad.
And you absolutely can have a Big Bad and a Man Behind The Man. That's kind of the point. Though I will admit I agonized on whether or not said man was really a Man Behind The Man, or just a Bigger Bad, but said Man has been along for the entire ride, pulling strings and making a mess of things for just about everyone save "him"self.

Because I've read further ahead than you guys, so most of it doesn't feel "unpublished." :twilightblush: Needless to say, I've had to reign myself in on citing some tropes. Lines get crossed soon, folks. As soon as chapter fifteen, in fact.

Yeah, that's pretty hilarious.

I didn't put it up!

In Pirene there are three major villains, some greater than others. The Wand King is the one who sets everything into motion, though.

Note that Big Bad is not a catch-all trope for the biggest and ugliest villain of any given story. The Badass leader of the outlaw gang that the heroes face once or twice is not the Big Bad. The railroad tycoon who turns out to be using the gang as muscle is the Big Bad. If there is a constant Man Behind the Man story going on in order to reveal the big bad, then whoever is behind it all is the Big Bad, not every major villain in the lead-up. At other times, if a new enemy shows up to replace the previous Big Bad, then they are the Big Bads of their individual storylines.
