Going Up: Now In Audio Form (Part 3)! · 4:29am Dec 10th, 2013
Earlier today, Present Perfect wrote a glowing review of my fanfic, Going Up. That's not why I'm making this blog post (though, if you aren't already following PP for his fic recs, you should consider doing so. He's a great source of reading material and his reviews are enjoyable to read in their own right, I've found).
No, this post is because in that review, he linked to a new fanfic reading of Going Up, by Deftfunk (as the narrator) and Scribbler (as Carrot Top and Derpy). I've just had a chance to listen to it, and it's great. I'm not usually much for audiobooks, but I'd heard good things about Scribbler's readings before. Sure enough, she does some amazing things with the pony voices--I was thouroughly impressed by how much sincerity she was able to put into Carrot Top and Derpys' dialogue. As for Deftfunk, he's got a wonderfully rich voice, and you can tell he's having fun with the narrator's lines. Having someone do a reading of one of my stories seems a great compliment to me, and this was just plain fun to listen to.

I disagree!
I fell like I was actually quite a poor match for the narrator. It needs someone more fatherly-sounding if you ask me. I tried to pull that off, but about 2% of the way through, it failed and I was like "Screw it."
Scribbler on the other hand, was the PERFECT choice. I knew it the moment I laid ears on her.
