    Ponyfeather Edition of Mendacity!

Very, very belated post, this, and I daresay many folks who would be interested in this have already found out one way or another on their own, but better late than never, I suppose. As of, um, about a month ago, Mendacity is available to order from Ponyfeather Publishing, in both hardcover and softcover editions!

    Not Dead Yet!

Well! Um. It's, ah, been a while, hasn't it? Lots of water under the bridge, lots of stories unwritten, lots of comments unanswered...

    Calling all artists!

Well! The first chapter of my de-ponyfied version of Rise and Fall is complete, and all that remains is the final tidbits and tiddlywinks for those folks who most generously opted for one of the higher reward tiers. I just completed the illustration for the chapter this evening, and, well...My artistic chops, it would seem, are not quite up to

The Rise and Fall of the Dark Lord...Sassafras?

Yes, you read correctly; Sassafras, not Sassaflash. Having mulled the idea over for some time, I've decided it's time I began writing again—and my current rather impecunious state helped me narrow down what to write rather nicely. The possible Celestia fic I mentioned may still happen, but today is not its day—nor will my own worldbuilding yet see dawn, as that's still in rather too

The Rise and Fall of the Dark Lord Sassaflash is Complete!

Exactly what it says on the tin. More than 100,000 words later, my tale of an angsty necromancer and her unflappable minion and friend has come to a close. Here it be. If you haven't already taken a gander, and if you liked Mendacity (or heck, even if you didn't), please, take a look—and if you've

The Incredible Vanishing Sweetie Belle · 11:59pm Dec 7th, 2013

Just a quick PSA; for plot-related reasons, I've removed Sweetie Belle's appearance from chapter III of my current story, and although she will have a role to play in future chapters, it'll be much lighter than I had originally planned. I know that this may be kind of disappointing to quite a few of y'all, and honestly I'm a bit disappointed as well, as I like Sweetie Belle and have fun writing her--but unfortunately, I just couldn't quite manage to get her to fit into the story in a way that satisfied me*, so in Ponyville she will remain. My apologies to those of you who are disappointed by this, but I really do think that the story will benefit from this change. Here's hoping I can demonstrate that to y'all.

*Not to mention the fact that, this being a Lovecraftian story, it wouldn't really be possible to include her in the thick of things without her becoming at least a little psychologically scarred, and as this is an interstitial story set between two episodes of the show, there are obvious problems with that.

Of course, the first question that springs unbidden to mind in a story like this is:

Sweetie's missing?

...what took her...?

I thought that part did a lot for Sassaflash's characterization. Made her seem like while she was aiming to take over the world and kill a few gods and all, she at least had good intentions towards her fellow ponies. That no matter how dark her work was, at her core she was still a good person.

You have final say and all, but the chapter seems less with Sweetie's absence. She was more of a plot device there, but one that was important to developing the protagonist.

Mm. I can't say I disagree with you at all; it's a pity that I needed to cut that, and I may well edit in something more a bit later, in an attempt to give some similar bit of character development. But, well...rem acu tetigisti. Sweetie Belle did play the role of a plot device there, and she was shaping up to keep on playing that role in certain future portions of the story, and what I really need for those parts is a character. I would have liked to leave this bit in, but I felt it promised too much for Sweetie Belle's future involvement in the story; better to just have her show up at the beginning, rather than to have her popping up multiple times. I felt that would imply to the reader that she would keep on popping up.

In the end, the chapter is a bit less, now--but I hope that in so diminishing it, I've set the groundwork I need to make the rest of the story that much greater. That's the idea, at any rate. We'll see how it turns out.

I suppose Sassaflash just sending her home as she decided to do at the end of the chapter is out of the picture? I quite understand how she couldn't be in the dramatic confrontations to come, but losing that scene's a blow to Sassaflash's characterization.

EDIT: Oh wait, there's comments about this already. Eh, I've already typed it, so I'll leave it anyway.
