Kings can be good

I'm posting this here in case RealityCheck deletes the original. Note that this is fairly religious and has nothing to do with my stories, so you can safely skip it if you want.

I will point out that good kings (and rulers in general) tend to make good communities and nations. The problem with mortal good kings is that they die.
This is especially shown in The Book of Mormon, where one of the Nephite kings (I think King Benjamin) was much beloved by his subjects; he worked with them in the fields and was a just ruler.
King Noah, from a group that split away from the Nephites to try and reclaim the land of Nephi (They originally fled due to the warnings of their prophets), was lazy and wicked. He replaced the priests appointed by his father with wicked priests, and caused said people to fall into wickedness. He also taxed the people to support his concubines, and liked wine a bit too much. When a prophet came and tried to warn the people that they would be subjugated if they didn't repent, the people grabbed said prophet and hauled him over to the king. The people, king, and priests were confident that they were good. The king and priests were angry with him when he started to list the Ten Commandments. They then had him burned for heresy. Shortly thereafter, there was a schism, and during that time the Lamanites invaded, the king was burned by his own people because he ordered them to leave their children and wives behind, and yes, they were subjugated.

But as to who should be the king, the answer is God.
