I've been invited to a podcast

This blog is pretty easily summed up by the title. I've been invited to appear on a podcast, specifically The Barcast. They interview a variety of notable, or perhaps notorious, people from among the fandom and I'm their latest choice. I'd say they must be scraping the bottom of the barrel in that case, but I'm too flattered by the attention to say no. They are taking audience questions here (

I won a contest and new chapter on the horizon.

Hello, everyone. Sorry for the long silence, but I am still alive, believe it or not.

New DF: Extra Stuff and still doing things!

The title honestly says it all. I just published a new chapter of Dresden Fillies: Extra Stuff, which is the collection of odds and ends of Dresden/MLP crossover that doesn't quite fit into my main stories. In this case it's a story inspired by a reader comment 'What if Fluttershy picked up one of the Blackened Denarius?". My answer to that was so involved (over 13K words) that I considered

    I HAVE AWOKEN

The timetable for new chapters is questionable, but rest assured faithful readers that my hiatus is over and new chapters will be coming.

Not dead yet, but not writing either

So this is a blog post I should have done a while ago and I'm sorry for not saying something sooner. As it turns out, the final year of getting my doctorate is the most time-consuming thing I've ever done in my life. Between a full 40 hours a week fulfilling school requirements, having a part-time job on the side to continue living and maintaining the bare minimum of social interaction with

Vote "Cold Days" for Best Paranormal Fantasy of 2013 · 11:10pm Nov 19th, 2013

Cold Days is in the running for Best Paranormal Fantasy of 2013 in the Goodreads Choice Awards. Lesser books have always taken this honor from The Dresden Files, but not this time! This year the horde shall gather like never before! This year the Butcher will taste blood! This year victory is ours!

Oh and if you're a fan of Brandon Sanderson (and you should be), he has two books in the running: A Memory of Light in Best Fantasy and Steelheart in Best Young Adult Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Right away Cap-i-tan!

Hm. I'm not sure if voting in this would be fair. I haven't read any of the other nominees.

Is this where I first claim that you're probably Jim first =p? But yes, I've read two other books on that list, and Cold Days is definitely the better of them.

I've had the privilege of meeting Mr Butcher a couple of times, though I don't imagine he remembers any of them, but I've been reading his books forever now (since 3 came out), and it was a bit of an underground hit at first, so it was easier to exchange a few words at a con.

And of course now that I'm voting, I have to toss one in for Scalzi's Human Division in the Sci-Fi category too.

I had literally just finished Steelheart not hours before you posted this, some coincidence right there.

I nearly, nearly clicked on Kevin Hearne's Hunted. Not to say that it is better then Cold Day, but more along the lines of having two of my favorite authors being up for the same award. I've slowly became a fan of the Iron Druid Chronicles since book two and it has made its way into my top tier of urban fantasy series'.

Luckily my inner Bob snarked some cold hard sense into me to go with my boy Jim this time around. Let's hope that Butcher finally gets some recognition from GoodReads for making urban fantasy relevant again.
