RARE IMAGES OF COMMANDER HURRICANE FOUND! · 1:27pm Nov 16th, 2013
CANTERLOT, Canterlot Province:
A most shocking discovery was made in the catacombs of Canterlot early yesterday evening. A sealed chest containing ancient portraits of Commander Hurricane. When asked about when they were most likely made, Dr. Time-Turner Whooves of the Canterlot University of Archaeology is quoted as saying:
"It will be impossible to tell without first [Radio-Carbon] dating the images first, and we can only risk damaging the portraits after the preservation spells on them have been recharged and ensured to be stable. That process will take months of work given the age of the canvas ad the archaic nature of the spells. As to the subject, given that the stallion identified as Hurricane is without any facial hair, we suspect that the images portray the time before Hurricane was discharged and forced into being a Gladiator by [Commander] Sullamander."
Art experts have identified the Pegasus in the portraits as Hurricane in part because, even though the time-frame is before his rise to power, Hurricane is still in his Commander Armor.
"The Ancients cared very little about things like 'historical accuracy'," says Dr. Paint Pallet, Dean of the Canterlot University Art Department, "that in fact is a very recent development. Art was less a method of aesthetics and more a way of education for a largely illiterate society. As such, historical figures of importance were depicted with easily and quickly identifiable visual cues to help the audience know who was who. As Hurricane was the first, last, and only stallion in the [Pre-Equestrian Celestine] Junta to rise to the rank of Commander, him bearing the armor of Commander would be an easy stand-in to let the audience know who the subject is, regardless of the artist or scene being depicted."
We asked about the episodes being depicted:
"We can't say at this time. It is possible, more than likely in fact, that the images are made simply to make the Commander look important, as another aspect of The Arts until recently was the use as propaganda, or perhaps they are part of a larger work where context would be provided. Sort of like an ancient comic book."
We asked Dr. Whooves what his thoughts were on the importance of the find.
"It is simply incalculable. Given the symbols on the chest were those used by the Junta to mark state property, it is possible that these portraits came from the archives of Celestine itself. We cannot make concrete conclusions just yet, but if so, that would give an indication that the site was in fact used to hide items from Celestine after its destruction. In fact, those symbols are on a lot of as-yet catalogued items down there. If these artifacts came from Celestine, then we might finally be able to answer some lingering questions. Information that has been lost since the Talonhoof Assault."

And UPDATE YOUR STORY PLEASE I BEG OF YOU.
I've got to love when someone puts unrelated stuff in the context of a fantastic headcanon. Nicely done.
Talonhoof destroyed Celestine?
That must have done something hideous to the Pegasi psyche. Did Talonhoof have a "Colonel Quaritch operation" in mind?
