I Got A Large Pond · 1:13am Oct 26th, 2013
I danced my heart out and all I got was a Large Pond.
Okay, this is another post about Gameloft's My Little Pony game. If that makes your eyes roll back into your head, I understand.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I've been working my way through My Little Pony again, mainly in hope of getting some "official" background on Sunset Shimmer. The latest update to the game, however, has knocked me for a loop.
First, the Equestria Girls Dance Marathon was surprising. I've never played rhythm games before*, but this was a clever choice if they wanted to add the Equestria Girls to the game. I actually enjoy it, with a couple of reservations. One, the "replay" button does not replay your last game, which I would have really liked. I haven't been looking at the girls dancing, because I've been so focused on getting that PERFECT marker.** Two, I find I'm better at the game if I turn the sound off and just focus on the dance icons.
Of course, there's no way in Tartarus I'll ever get to the Big Prize (which, I'm guessing, is Equestria's Flash Sentry) because I'm parsimonious with my gems. (Gameloft should have no complaint with me; I think I financed the dev team's vacation in Cabo with my in-game purchases.)
The "Twilight's Coronation" storyline startled me. You know, you play a game like this, on and off, every day, and you think you know what's going to happen. You catch the train for Canterlot and find Shining Armor standing outside his house, the "ball bounce" icon overhead. And the dude is waving at you (not at anypony else, at you), so you trot over and play with him a bit, like everyday.
Then you complete a quest for shards and suddenly, right there, in the middle of Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle (who you've bounced balls and collected apples with) is suddenly uplifted and transformed into an alicorn. It was so weird, to see a game character whose every buck and wiggle I've come to know, suddenly jump out of her familiar role. Of course, alicorn Twilight isn't much different now than unicorn Twilight. (I note that she only ascends after reaching 5 stars, so there's no chance of "clearing the skies" with her, darn it.) Still, it was a startling moment.
And here, if you've read this far, is the weirdest thing: Derpy has lost her cardboard box. I don't know if this a bug or a deliberate decision. But since the last update, I've discovered Derpy just standing around, looking up at me expectantly, then jumping for joy (and coins) when I tapped her.
I've said it before: this game is a major time-waster and a money sink. But it has its moments.

*Rhythm has been bred out of my people.
**I have been reliably informed that "I ROCK!"
There's a Derpy in the bobbing for apples game too. You may have to zoom in.
It is Flash Sentry. I finally got him, spending upwards of 200 gems in the process. Now, allow me to preface by saying I am normally an ardent content provider supporter, but when something is added to a game as such a blatant resource sump, I take that as permission to circumnavigate the obsticle. As such, I hacked my resource cache file and gave myself 10,000 gems.
I now have that little brown pegasus guard flapping around Canterlot.
Our mare in Ponyville
She no longer hides
While in Canterlot
In her box she still resides.
Oh, good grief. Outbreak of changelings today of all days. Do you know how ridiculous it felt to be chasing down a swarm of rogue Starswirl the Beardeds?
All right! Defeated Nightmare Moon and on Nightmare Night, no less!
