An Update To Happenings! · 2:57am Oct 22nd, 2013

Hey guys! Long time no talk! Much has happened, but not as much as you might think.

First things first:

I've started working on the Final Draft of the book. So far, it's right at 44,000 words, give or take a little. It's coming along quite nicely, but at the same time, I feel... ... ... I'm not sure. It's like I don't have the ability to draw off you guys for this one, even though I've got nothing but support from my readers most awesome. Some days I feel like the book will be done and everything will be okay.

Other days... Well, I just can't imagine the book ever being finished. It's a lot of work. Having written it once and having rewritten it once and being in the process of the final rewrite, I'm just... Man, it's draining, and some days, it just doesn't feel like it is worth it. But I know, deep down, that these horrible feelings are untrue and unfounded.

The book will be worth it, the fanfic will be underway soon after, and I can take a break from freaking out so much.

Yeah... That'd be nice.

Anyway, Dad is doing well. He just finished his radiation and we went on a seven day cruise to celebrate. It was wonderful and I couldn't be happier for having been a part of that. We'll know in the next couple of years if he's completely free and clear.

I think I'm going to put a hold on the book and try to squeeze out a TTEOAP half-chapter again, just to show love for everyone that's been with me so far. Also, if anyone is interested as to what the book is actually all about, I feel it to be a mix of my current two fanfics. Like, pretty grim, but told through an upbeat perspective. But we'll see.

Ciao guys!

Needs more pony!

Edit: I miss mom. :\

We got your back, bro!

Glad things are working out for you! And can't wait to see what you've been working on! (both the book and the fanfic update after)

And yes you can never get enough pony in your life!:pinkiehappy:

1441968 You just said what I wanted to say.

Keep bronying Cards!

Good to know you're doing alright, and that your father is doing well. Don't worry about those draining days. They pass eventually. Look forward to seeing what you've got coming.

Stay unwavering. We are always here for you!

about the "i miss mom"...
every time i think about those that left my life to never come back, i try to remember a joke they made, a good moment we shared, something about them that made me smile and laugh. and that way, i don't feel soo bad.

hope it can help you.

Couple questions!
Could Cards cruise the Caribbean carelessly while playing cards?
Do you still plan to release the book for free with a optional donation link?
Glad to hear you had a (most likely wonderful) vacation!

If Wanderer gives you encouragement, you better take it.
The same can not be said about my life lessons, but it's the thought that counts.
Either way, Keep going man :D

AHHHH YOU'RE PUTTING OFF THE STORY I'M READING TO WRITE ANOTHER CHAPTER OF THE STORY THAT YOU PUT OFF BEFORE YOU STARTED WRITING THE STORY THAT I'M READING!

I'm kidding, looking forward to hearing from firewall after so long.

Hey, if you need me back as an editor, I'll be off course at the end of the week. I'm using a different skype account, though, so we'll need to consolidate, and shit.

Also, it'll give us time to catch up, eh?

Great to hear from one of my favourite authors again! About those "staring up at a brick wall thats actually made from tissue paper" days, they pass, and if you ever are unable to get out from that feeling ( for one it's extremely oppressive and icky, for another it actually decreases your creativity and the work you get done.) figure out something concrete. How much time have you spent working on it so far, how much is required to finish it, how much time do you spend on other mindless things like watching tv or surfing the net?. I find if I can put those things in perspective and realise that "holy crap, I can do this!" that the feeling pretty much just goes away.
I hope you can irk out some meaning from my ramblings, and good luck with your so very nearly completed book/new tteoap half chapter,

Teslaponie

I don't care if it ends up taking me over a week to do it (I'd actually kinda prefer that), I will read that book of yours.

Then I'll crawl out of my metaphorical hole to see what fics have updated in that time.

... Okay, dude, did you borrow my timey-wimey powers from me again? How did you know I was about to get on Skype to ask you how you and your dad were doing?! O_o

Seriously brah, that's a little creepy... Like... Really kinda creepy...

BUT YAYIFICATIONS! Things are looking up! That's good! Unless it's about to rain! In which case you should look down so you don't drown! Or fall into a sewer gutter! Or trip over a cat! Or run into a bar! Or-

You called Cards? :D

Well a part of why you don't feel as drawn from the audience is because you haven't shown it to us silly :pinkiehappy: When you something like Eyes of Another Pony your throwing it up chapter by chapter, sometimes just a couple weeks apart, and you get to hear all the feedback from your fans and stuff and it's really immediate and constant. When you do it in book form, we can't really comment on anything till its DONE, so you'll get all the gratification stuff after its all finished, but in the meantime it's kinda empty.

But look on the plus side, once you have an established fanbase you'll get people commenting and writing about your work long after the most recent book has been written!

Heh, don't worry. If anyone can pull off something like this, it's you. Me and my mate are trying our own story, so I'll soon know the stuff you're going through...
On a slightly different scale anyway...
Thankfully my dad's already gone through cancer...

Glad to hear everything is doing fine.

I’m so happy to hear you and your dad are doing great! :pinkiehappy:

This is completely sincere, even though I know next to nothing about your dad. There’s just… something about the way you write that touches me deeply. Or maybe it’s not actually your writing style, but your karma flowing right through the interwebs? Who knows :derpyderp2:

Glad your pop is doing okay, and I wish you the best of luck on that book. Remember, “It doesn’t matter how slowly you go-so long as you do not stop.”-Confucius.
Hang in there, dude. I hope things work out for you!:pinkiehappy:

Good news about your dad, and glad to hear you're nearly done with the book. :pinkiehappy:

Wow, haven't heard from YOU in a while, Cards. I'm glad to hear about how you and your pa keep on keeping on.

Might I ask what kind of a cruise was it that your dad is goinf on? Perhaps Alaskan or Caribbean?

Good to hear from you. I'm glad to read that your dad is doing better, and I said a prayer for him to continue to do so. Even if you can't seem to draw off of us, have faith in yourself and you'll probably do fine. So the story is a grim one that has the edge taken off by an deceptively cheery voice to the way it's written? Sounds like a good way to get through the tough times.
I'll look forward to possibly reading your book some day. You said that you might be updating TtEoAP soon? Yes! That, I'm definitely looking-forward to.

We're here in support if ya' need it mate!
Keep working at it, and don't stress yourself out alright!
Writing books can be really stressful and take a long time, so don't try to rush yourself. It's like we learned from Twilight and running...pace yourself! :twilightsheepish:
And if you need back up...well there's the whole Brony community!

Great to hear from you again, bro, and it's awesome to hear that your dad is still kicking cancer's ass. Definitely still looking forward to reading your story once it comes out. Stay strong and never give up. We're all here for you, waiting to see what you'll write next.:heart:

1445249 This comment made me shoot coke out my nose at the unintentional pun kicking cancer's ass? Remember what kind of cancer it was? Wait was this unintentional or are you a clever bastard?

1445327

Honestly, that was completely unintentional.:twilightblush:

*hugs the Cardslafter*

All my support! I am sure the book will be a huge hit - can't wait to read it myself.

I wish I could hug you right now.
Sometimes ... sometimes it's almost painful that I can't.
I'm really happy for you, Mister Lafter. :] At the same time, I hurt for you.

Love and best wishes from a friend,
-Kell

Nice to hear from ya.

I hope your dad doesn't turn to cooking meth...

I feel like I should say something deep and profound but I'm not too good with words (unlike some people here). I'll just wish you the best of luck and I'm looking forward to the book.

I finally finished TTEOAP (I was, for some reason, waiting on the rewrites of the earlier chapters rather than just devouring all you put to paper), and I'm glad I did.
Before the post-flutterfall chapters, I was skeptical whether you would be able to write anything that wasn't wasn't your own quirky self-insert story. But now, I have to say, I feel like you could pretty much write anything!
I want to read your first novel, I want to sell it to all my friends, and I hope you never give up writing!
:raritystarry:

So glad to hear about your dad. Just read you're previous post and I gotta say, it really hit home.

Lost my dad four years ago, and it really, really hurt, not just because the man responsible for my existence had left me forever, but also because it was entirely preventable (he died of heart disease). You are so strong and so inspirational; I can't imagine seeing both my parents suffering through such horrible circumstances. I eagerly anticipate seeing what you have in store for us.

Stay strong bro.
