Princess, Equoid and Sergeant Reckless · 7:35pm Oct 4th, 2013

First off, thank you to my editor, NoeCarrier, and everyone who tagged or commented on Princess. After a post-comments round of revisions the story made it past the EDQ gatekeepers and now sits on the posting list (I didn't even get any correction requests!). yay!

Some other things that might be of interest:

1) Equoid, Charles Stross' take on the unicorn life cycle. Free novella on Tor.com, mentioned because he's one of my favourite authors and this story has several MLP references in it. It's set in his 'Laundry' universe, which is distinctly Lovecraftian -- this story is more graphic than anything else he's done and contains a few things you might regret reading (I'd class it as 'grimdark/horror'). You have been warned.

2) The story of a real-life heavy weapon pony: Sergeant Reckless. Came across this after researching how to construct a pony mounted heavy crossbow; it's the tale of a mare who served with the Marines in Korea (I say 'served' in the true sense of the word). Unlike most animal-in-war stories, it actually has a happy ending. Highly recommended reading (wikipedia has more detail, if you want it).

Congrats on another EQD success!

That second story just screams "needs a fanfic", probably one starring Dash or a Dash ancestor as Reckless.

Thank you!
It really does, doesn't it? If anyone had just told me Reckless' story, I'd have said it was unbelievable.

...well, you said 'Equoid' was pretty grimdark, even for Stross...

...Oh, how I wish I had believed you... :pinkiesick:

...I think I'm done with ponies for the day...

That was rather weird. Though the pony references were more blatant than anything fun/subtle! The only real disappointment in an otherwise good story.
