MLP Rule 34 Update: September 2013 / Ravishing / Review of Equestria Girls · 4:51am Sep 11th, 2013

It's the tenth of the month, so you know what that means. That's right! It's time for another in-depth analysis of clop!

Specifically, I'm talking about porn statistics. For those of you who would like to review my previous Rule 34 blog posts, you can find them here.
August 2012 / At the rate things are going...
September 2012 / Famous Bronies
October 2012 / Digimon
November 2012 / Equestrian elections
December 2012 / Top 11 Hottest Animated Women
January 2013 / General porn statistics
February 2013 / Touhou review
March 2013 / Season three wrap up
April 2013 / Idolm@ster
May 2013 / OC woes
June 2013 / Ribald Rivalries
July 2013 / A major announcement
August 2013 / Rule 34 Origins

Last month was the one year anniversary since I first started recording Rule 34 statistics and next month will be the three year anniversary since the premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This update bridges the gap between those two milestones.

As of September 10, 2013, here's the state of Rule 34, according to Rule34.paheal.net:

Pokemon still holds the lead with 64,591 images. 1,383 new explicit images were added during August, giving Pokemon a 2.1% increase in porn from last month.

Touhou is in second place with 42,349 images. 888 new explicit images were added during August, giving Touhou a 2.1% increase in porn from last month.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is in third place with 38,257 images. 2,342 new explicit images were added during August, giving My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic a 6.5% increase in porn from last month.

DC Comics is in fourth place with 22,251 images. 317 new explicit images were added during August, giving DC Comics a 1.4% increase in porn from last month.

Street Fighter is in fifth place with 16,641 images. 223 new explicit images were added during August, giving Street Fighter a 1.3% increase in porn from last month.

Naruto is in sixth place with 16,225 images. 219 new explicit images were added during August, giving Naruto a 1.3% increase in porn from last month.

Marvel Comics is in seventh place with 15,932 images. 219 new explicit images were added during August, giving Marvel Comics a 1.3% increase in porn from last month.

Sonic Team is in eighth place with 13,835 images. 341 new explicit images were added during August, giving Sonic Team a 2.5% increase in porn from last month.

Digimon is in ninth place with 11,092 images. 148 new explicit images were added during August, giving Digimon a 1.3% increase in porn from last month.

Idolm@ster is in tenth place with 10,389 images. 8 new explicit images were added during August, giving Idolm@ster a 0.07% increase in porn from last month.

For the first time ever, My Little Pony has generated more than 2,000 explicit images during two consecutive months. More porn was produced by MLP in August than Pokemon and Touhou combined.

In a surprising coincidence, Naruto and Marvel Comics each produced exactly 219 porn images since the last update.

Now that we've gone over the data for the top ten porn producers, here's an update on Rule 34 images for the mane six:

Twilight Sparkle  has 5,632 images. 333 explicit images were added during August, giving her an 6.2% increase from last month.

Rainbow Dash :rainbowdetermined2: has 4,954 images. 360 explicit images were added during August, giving her a 7.8% increase from last month.

Pinkie Pie :pinkiehappy: has 4,289 images. 226 explicit images were added during August, giving her an 5.5% increase from last month.

Fluttershy :yay: has 4,213 images. 275 explicit images were added during August, giving her a 6.9% increase from last month.

Rarity :raritystarry: has 3,601 images. 229 explicit images were added during August, giving her a 6.7% increase from last month.

Applejack :ajsmug: has 3,601 images. 250 explicit images were added during August, giving her a 7.4% increase from last month.

:raritystarry: 3,601
:ajsmug: 3,601

Unbelievable. Applejack and Rarity both have exactly 3,601 explicit images. We'll have to wait until the next update to see if there's going to be a change in the ranking. Will Applejack surpass her rival, or will Rarity manage to retain fifth place?

In other news, Rainbow Dash generated more porn than Twilight Sparkle this month.

Congratulations to Fluttershy, who managed to generate more than 4,000 total explicit images.

Special thanks to Infinion, who made these amazing graphs of the data I collected.

To start off with, here's the master chart of the top ten rule34 producers.

This chart represents nearly three years' worth of rule34 data. In order to more closely examine the numbers, Infinion has broken the data into more manageable semi-annual charts.
Oct. 10 - Mar. 11.
Apr. 11 - Sept. 11.
Oct. 11 - Mar. 12.
Apr. 12 - Sept. 12.
Oct. 12 - Mar. 13.
Which brings us to Apr. 13 - Sept. 2013.

To get an idea of how far My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has come since its premiere, here's a chart highlighting the monthly numerical and percentage increase of MLP porn.

For those who desire a more consolidated look at the raw data, here's the numbers for the top ten porn producers, as well as their monthly increase.

Now let's take a look at the rule34 stats for the mane six. Here's their master chart.

In order to discover what these numbers mean, we'll need to delve deeper. In order to do that, we'll break down the data into semi-annual chunks.
Oct. 10 - Mar. 11.
Apr. 11 - Sept. 11.
Oct. 11 - Mar. 12.
Apr. 12 - Sept. 12.
Oct. 12 - Mar. 13.
Which brings us to Apr. 13 - Sept. 13.

Here's a breakdown based on rivalries. First up is Twilight Sparkle vs Rainbow Dash.

Next is Pinkie Pie vs Fluttershy.

And finally Rarity vs Applejack.

For those who desire a more consolidated look at the raw data, here's the numbers for the mane six, as well as their monthly increase.

Before I get to the Equestria Girls Movie Review, I want to address the controversy stirred up by one of my recent blog posts.

When discussing porn, it's only natural to reflect on certain fetishes, even if some people find them disturbing. To that end, let's talk about rape.

During the last 40 years, several surveys have taken place which revealed that rape fantasy, also known as ravishment, is one of the most popular sexual fetishes. A 1974 study by Hariton and Singer found that being "overpowered or forced to surrender" was the second most frequent fantasy in their survey.

In 2012, a team of researchers based at the University of North Texas and the University of Notre Dame studied 355 female undergraduates. This was the scenario: a male acquaintance is strongly attracted to the female character. He expresses a yearning for sex with her, but she's clearly unresponsive. He attempts without success to convince her. When she continues to openly refuse, he overpowers and rapes her. The female character is resistant throughout the interaction and at no time gives consent. However, as the man is attractive and he provides erotic stimulation, she does experience gratification from the forced sex. The scenario places more emphasis on the use of coercion than on the sexual pleasure.

The team of researchers, lead by Dr. Jenny Bivona, found that 62% of participants reported having a rape fantasy of some type. Of the women who reported having the most common rape fantasy, ''being overpowered or forced by a man to surrender sexually against my will,'' 40% had it at least once a month and 20% had it at least once a week. The authors concluded that these results indicate rape fantasies play a significant role in the sexual fantasy lives of many women.

What some people find troubling about ravishment fantasies is how closely they mimic genuine rape. While consent is an important component of any sexual roleplay, the illusion of non-consensual sex (i.e. rape) is important to maintaining the fantasy. Those who are upset by the depiction of fictional ravishment would prefer if there was some visual cue to indicate that the rape isn't real.

It's like painting the tips of children's toy guns orange, so they aren't confused with real guns. It's a good safety measure, but it also ruins the illusion. Sometimes people just want to pretend they're playing with dangerous symbols of power, like guns or rape, in the privacy of their own home. Is the solution to treat pretend rape like pretend guns? Should we use orange paint on the vaginas of every woman involved in ravishment fantasies, so no one confuses them with actual rape victims?

It's the difference between playing cops and robbers and actually robbing a bank. I have no problem with consenting adults enacting a rape scenario for their own pleasure, because it's all pretend. Spray-painting the tip of a toy gun black is the same as acting terrified during a rape fantasy. The goal is to make everything look as authentic as possible.

A successful rape fantasy should be indistinguishable from a genuine sexual assault. Rarity looks frightened and in pain, but for all we know, she's merely acting scared. Rarity is quite skilled at manipulating anyone with her flirtatious charms to get what she wants.

Rarity also knows how to trick Diamond Dogs into doing her bidding by pretending to shed tears, cry out in pain and shake.

Rarity could play a convincing victim in a ravishment fantasy.

As part of this discussion, I reached out to someone who's unfortunately familiar with the pains associated with sexual abuse. I asked if he would be kind enough to share his feelings regarding this sensitive subject and he agreed.

"As a rape victim myself, I will say for one that I don't condone it. Duh. When it comes to rape play, that's a different story.

Rape play is different because of the fact that it is still consensual. Rape itself is not. Thus, there will be a difference. Sadly, and I have fallen prey to this, It is possible to not figure out and understand the differences.

I do have a reason. Whenever rape is brought up to me, I will almost always have a problem with it. I truly cannot help it, it's part of my mental condition because of said event. I can suppress it and push it back, which is why I have been able to riff several rapefics and write one that almost directly detailed what happened to me.

That also comes into play when it comes to joking about said event. Now, I don't approve of rape jokes but I have made them. "Wait a moment!" you ask. "Isn't that being hypocritical?" Well, yes. I also have a reason for this as well, if you still care to read this.

Rape is not only impacting the body, it impacts the mind as well. It's different for whoever has experienced it, but in my case, I have nightmares, flashbacks during the day and have erected several mental blocks that... mess with my head. What are they? Well, I tend to say the stupidest things at the worst of times. You might have seen this in my riffs. And I truly cannot help it. It is a mental condition that I developed from the rape. It is getting better, but it's going to obviously take a lot of time.

This isn't my blog, so I'll end it. Do I like rapefics? No. Am I okay with rape play? Yes, because as I've said before, it is consensual. Both parties want to do it, and there's safety measures in play. Will I ever do it? Hell no.

If you actually read all of that, I just want to say thank you for listening. Or reading. Whatever you wanna call it."
-twow443 (quote used with permission.)

Rape is the worst thing we can do to one another, but that doesn't mean people should be banned from making fun of it. I hate animal abuse too, but I still make jokes about that.

Q: What's red and green and goes 100mph?
A: A frog in a blender.

There's nothing funny about torturing animals. That's why Cannibal Holocaust is an abomination. I can oppose animal cruelty and still enjoy The Princess Bride, because the Rodents of Unusual Size that get beaten and stabbed aren't real.

I can oppose rape and still enjoy reading clopfics with forced sex, because the ravishment isn't real.

Now let's talk about Equestria Girls.

Like many other bronies, I was nervous when the trailer for Equestria Girls was released.

The fandom was just recovering from the shock of Twilight Sparkle turning into an alicorn when we were hit with the news that there would be a My Little Pony movie in theaters.

Before Flash Sentry's identity was revealed, many people speculated on the name of Twilight Sparkle's romantic interest, with Brad being the most popular choice. MLP writer Meghan McCarthy even responded with a fake name just to mess with us.

(I still don't see Dreamy Cutebottom used nearly enough as a nickname for Ass Entry Flash Sentry.)

For those who haven't seen it yet, here's Equestria Girls.

So, what did I think of the movie? In my opinion, Equestria Girls wasn't made because the writers wanted to tell this story. I think it was a contractual obligation. Hasbro wanted something to promote their new line of fashion dolls based on My Little Pony, so they made the Equestria Girls movie.

I've talked at length about the rivalry between Hasbro and Mattel. I've mentioned how Twilight Sparkle and her friends have been drafted into a war against Monster High, Barbie and other lines of fashion dolls.

Hasbro has chosen My Little Pony to capture some territory from Mattel in the doll aisle. This will involve Twilight and her friends donning the guise of humans in order to fight the enemy on their terms. Don't think of Equestria Girls as a feature-length toy commercial; think of the film as wartime propaganda.

So, considering all that, how is the film itself? If you want to watch an amazing show where a character voiced by Tara Strong obeys an order from the ruler of her world and travels through a portal to another dimension where she has to fit in at an ordinary high school, watch Sym-Bionic Titan.

Some people managed to find a fair share of flaws with the story.

I don't hate Equestria Girls, but I don't love it either. I'm on the fence, while leaning more towards the positive side. One nice thing I can say about the Equestria Girls movie is that Twilight Sparkle and her friends acted how they would on Friendship is Magic. Their personalities remained intact, which is more than I can say for the dolls.

I realize that Hasbro is trying to sell fashion dolls to rival Mattel. It makes sense for the Equestria Girls to have a "passion for fashion" if I may borrow a line from Bratz. The problem is that Friendship is Magic is known for having diverse characters. Unlike her previous iterations, the G4 Rainbow Dash doesn't "dress in style" and that's okay. The thing that united the mane six in Equestria was their friendship; not their love of fashion. It would be interesting to see Applejack's doll dress in overalls or Pinkie Pie wearing a t-shirt and shorts, but that didn't happen. For the sake of conformity, all the Equestria Girls love fashion and wear dresses, even Rainbow Dash.

Most of my gripes regarding Equestria Girls relates to the dolls as opposed to the movie. Considering what the animators were given to work with, I think they did a good job in capturing the spirit of My Little Pony; much more so than the dolls, at least.

I wasn't bothered that the movie took place in high school. I feel like that setting has a lot of potential, even if the filmmakers didn't explore the concept as much as they could have. Here's IDW's take on Equestrian high school from issue #11 of the MLP comics.

This comic cover captures the nostalgia and drama of high school better than the entire Equestria Girls movie. The attention to detail is amazing. It actually managed to make me miss school and filled me with a desire to relive the memories.

Final verdict, I liked Equestria Girls. I was on the fence, but recent reflections have tipped the scales in favor of the film. While I wasn't a fan of the story, the movie had decent animation and great songs. Most importantly, it managed to capture the essence of Friendship is Magic, which is high praise in my book.

Thanks for reading and feel free to share any thoughts or opinions in the comments section. I look forward to joining everyone again next month when we come together to celebrate the third anniversary of Friendship is Magic with Rule 34 statistics.

Always a fun bit to read these.

Nice bit of explanation for the last one, too.

And as if twow couldn't get any more awesome... I wish I could follow him twice.

~Skeeter The Lurker

Beautiful! Nice to see that the porn is coming out at a healthy rate.

You posted the same video twice.

1342046 If you think the porn was high this month...

i.qkme.me/3si7l6.jpg

dunno why charts about pony porn are so intriguing to me. :rainbowhuh:

So wait... Lyra is only a year younger than Shining and Cadance? And Moondancer is the same age as them?

Damn, they're way older than any of the mane six.

But here we see Cheerilee with them, but she was in Rarity's class, so...

My head hurts. :facehoof:

Ugh. The dolls still creep me out. If they could only get molders who actually care...
*Gestures wildly at the group of people who already make plushies/figures 50 times better than the official zombie versions.*

1342052
They all look different to me. Which video are you referring to?

1342058
I always imagined Rarity was older than her friends. Honestly, I was a little upset by the inclusion of Wheat Grass. I find it hard to believe she would've attended Canterlot High. It's seems more like fan service to include her.

1342069 You should check this video.

Just so you know, I'm almost finished with the R34 cover pic you asked of me! :pinkiehappy:

Wonder what the boom will be like when Season 4 comes.

Wait... no violent, raging hate? Psh, boring.

1342100 So yeah, the comic's cover is still confusing. :rainbowlaugh:

1342110
I did include the video which goes over everything that's wrong with the Equestria Girls movie. I admit that it's flawed. The one area which I can't fault is how the characters interact with each other. It felt consistent with Frienship is Magic, so I couldn't hate the film. If Twilight Sparkle and her friends acted like the Equestria Girls dolls, we'd be having a very different conversion. Fashion and clothes played little to no role in the movie, which is something I'm grateful for.

:facehoof: So, Twow was in fact able to handle things just fine. All of that anger, flung insults, and overreaction was pointless. It's an admirable thing, leaping to a friend's defense, but sometimes you can go too far, and your reaction becomes out of proportion.

I'm honestly a little surprised (maybe a little disappointed, too) that so far nobody is talking about the rape thing, I was expecting a bit more controversy. But I do agree strongly, my life would certainly be more difficult if my sexual fantasies were what caused any disruptions in self-confidence because I'd be too concerned in second-guessing myself as to whether or not I was...sick.

1342140 I believe it is because most of the people in the controversy agreed to forget it ever happened due to an influx of toxicness that sprung up around the members of said people. To avoid schisms, they have resigned themselves to harboring ill towards Bronystories in silence.

1342134 And things spiral out of control, and schisms rend apart once great organizations.

"Am I okay with rape play? Yes, because as I've said before, it is consensual. Both parties want to do it"

Both? :rainbowderp:
Why limit yourself to just two? :rainbowhuh:
Gang rape fantasy is where it's at. :rainbowdetermined2:

Seriously though, twow. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.:heart:

In my opinion, Equestria Girls wasn't made because the writers wanted to tell this story. I think it was a contractual obligation. Hasbro wanted something to promote their new line of fashion dolls based on My Little Pony, so they made the Equestria Girls movie.

It was also specifically intended as brony appeasement. Hasbro saw all the anthro art and fics and things and said, "hey, they'll love this!"

1342122 If they acted like the dolls I'd throw up through out the movie, luckily both our fears did not come to fruition. I'm used to seeing the whole, 'oh god it will suck,' then 'it wasn't that bad' speech. I thought it was fun and entertaining anyway.

1342165 Which is the same line of thought that leads a person to think "Hey, black people call themselves this word all the time, it must be the preferred term to address them if you want to be friendly!" :facehoof:

Should we use orange paint on the vaginas of every woman

>tfw new fetish

Excellent read as always, I myself really enjoyed Equestria Girls. Mainly because it was released on my birthday and I got gold class tickets. But what I enjoyed most was the music, it is all so catchy and I felt like gettin' up and dancing right there.

1342055
Statistics and porn. What's not to like?

Also, glad to see someone shares my opinion on the movie: they did the best they could with what they had to work with.

Okay, maybe I am just too hung up on this, but isn't it a little harsh to call 'Cannibal Holocaust' an abomination? Sure, it isn't the kind of movie I put on every weekend, and I know that it can be very hard to sit through, but still, I think it's a bit harsh.

On another note, great blog post.

1342396
Don't get me wrong. The film has a place in movie history. Calling Cannibal Holocaust an 'abomination' isn't meant to downplay its cultural significance.

A minor league paper on sexual psychology disguised as a porn blog!? :pinkiegasp: I think I've found the intelligent individuals. :trixieshiftleft::trixieshiftright: To actually go out and solicit case study material? That's above and beyond.:ajsmug: I mean to actually go and conduct research, if only one interview, that's quality and dedication.

Oddly your findings fit with some research I've done in regard to sexual abuse and the medical field. Specifically the use of positional authority and coercion. :rainbowderp: The postulate origin of the 'rape fantasy' of modern women would then be the 'patient' role in the child's sexual exploration game of 'Let's Play Doctor'. The doctor, in real life, normally being the first individual most people remember as being given tacit consensual control over their person. (Undressing upon instruction, touching in highly sensitive 'private' regions of the patient's person.) On reaching puberty, females experience more in depth evolutions of this with the inclusion of breast and pelvic exams. :unsuresweetie: The latter of which involves consensual invasive examination.

(Switches off - Academic mode)

Now to seek out the morning's coffee ... :pinkiecrazy::pinkiehappy:

1342460
No, I didn't think so. I usually assume that calling a movie 'abominable' or any other choice word is mostly based on its content, and CH certainly has stuff in it that would qualify as abominable. But from where I sit, I still think it's a little bit harsh, seeing as how the movie carries a pretty strong message through its graphic content. I'm not going to defend the animal slaughter, it was a bit too far even for my tastes, but I still feel Deodato had something to say with it. I don't know if this comment makes any sense, but that's my take on it. If you wanna discuss it, PM me, I'm not gonna boggle your blog post down with my ranting.

But on a related note, are you planning to go through any more controversial movies in your blog? Perhaps tackle the Video Nasties? Just curious.

Yes! only one month until the third anniversary of pony porn!

Rape is the worst thing we can do to one another

Even worse than cutting off someone's limbs, setting them on fire, and then kicking them down a hill of salt into hydrochloric acid?

1343236
Did you see the way she was dressed? She was just begging to have her limbs cut off, set ablaze and kicked down a hill of salt into hydrochloric acid.

Well stated on the ravishment fetish and rape. Finally I'll have something to link to as my previous attempts to explain this issue have been in vain.

1343326

i know that feel ;_;

1343326 That doesn't really answer my question.

''being overpowered or forced by a man to surrender sexually against my will,'' 40% had it at least once a month and 20% had it at least once a week. The authors concluded that these results indicate rape fantasies play a significant role in the sexual fantasy lives of many women.

...I need to train more to be able to overpower a woman if I ever meet one which got such rape fantasies. Else she will always overpower me with my few muscles.^^;

1347283
I hear roofies help level the playing field.:raritywink:
Seriously, though. You can rape someone, but only if it's consensual. :ajbemused:

1347393

That's why I said meeting a woman with said fantasy meaning if she's willing to do so. Though I guess such woman usually would seek the big and strong hunks to do them that way, not the small and timid weakling ones.
Expect they have a weird rape fantasy in which they get overpowered by a much weaker man which they usually could get down with one hit in the face. :rainbowhuh:

1347452 It varies depending on the person since guys do have them too. Some folks want to be overpowered, others are happy pretending they were n_n I'm sure you'll find a good fit.

This whole blog, Bronystories, is what really restored my respect of you. Truly. Your whole bit addressing that ugly business with twow, and what you said about the difference between roleplay and the actual thing, it actually really struck a chord with me.

Now, I know you probably don't care about me or what I'm saying. Hell, you've got 1,600+ followers to pick from :rainbowlaugh:

Still, I just wanted to tell you how much this blog post meant to me.

Best wishes,
-Apex

P.S. No offense, but a few of your fans are kinda dicks. You know which ones I'm talking about.

1355255

Now, I know you probably don't care about me or what I'm saying.

Of course I care. Otherwise, I wouldn't have followed you, now would I? :raritywink:

Thanks for the kind words! :yay:

I felt it was important to clarify my views on this divisive topic.

1355625 Indeed. Glad we finally addressed this, or at least in a manner my stupid southern brain could comprehend. :rainbowlaugh:

This blog is impressive enough for me to follow you for.

Also, I like your stories, so that's a plus.

Well, I'm glad you talked about the difference between a ravishment fantasy and true rape. Even though it's consensual, it has to look real to feel real. The difference is consent and limits. People need to understand that ravishment is a fantasy for some people and, at the very least, tolerate the fact that people do participate in rape play. Thank you for spreading information about ravishment fantasies.
