    Nightmare Moon AU

I keep musing about ways Cadence being canon before S2 could have fun influences on fics and the story but I just had an idea for an AU where upon returning Nightmare Moon steals the Elements of Harmony before anyone even gets close to them. Twilight and company still become friends, but then they barely escape the castle being collapsed on them and have to be saved by Zecora; as they recover,

    Original Fiction Idea

Anyone who has been following my blog recently may have noticed I posted a rather detailed fic concept, for anyone who missed it there should be a link in the side bar to the various post.

DBZ Aftershock Characters: Azure & Isheen

Azure, (filler name) the Samurai psychic. Azure in a tall, blond-ish haired man/woman (I originally planned woman but am thinking maybe guy now) is based of General Blue from the Mystic Adventure movie, both in appearance and uniform. (Blue was nominally a good guy in that film so food for thought.) They may be a reincarnation, maybe not, chances are folks wouldn't mention it or notice unless

DBZ Aftershock Characters: Yancy & Ran

    Set up For Cast:

The story follows a new generation of 'heroes'. Though most of them are more aptly called protagonists and in come cases are outright antagonists. Some of this cast fall under the guidance of Bulma, Korin and Roshi while others have their own support networks & agendas.

Cadence!Verse: Nurse Redheart · 8:16am Jul 19th, 2013

After allot of deliberation and discussion I believe that I have decided to make Nurse Redheart the new Element of Loyalty. This means my dear Mjolna will be made into a side character and while this is a shame (there was so much stuff relating to magic I wanted to so with her) I feel it is for the best. Plus with her serving as the Cakes/Spike to the group I can still do plenty of exploring with less limits and worries. Still I guess we'll see when/if I actually get a story out.

So without further adieu, allow me to introduce the Element of Loyalty/kindness, Nurse Redheart!

Redheart was born into a medical family with a veterinarian for a mother and an orderly/doctor/nurse for a father (i'm still deciding). She got her Cutie Mark at quite a young age and has always known she wanted to care for and heal the sick. (which is why she didn't become a medic:)

Redheart takes her career as a nurse very seriously and is extremely passionate about her work and medicine in general. She has an amazing level of tolerance for her patience, whether they be young or old; but she has significantly less patience for ponies who bother those under her care and is very strict with them no matter who they are. She works at Everfree public hospital and has done so for a number of years, likely being the oldest of the C!6.

Redheart's expression of her loyalty is shown through her dedication to her patients her craft and when the princess's return her decision to set off with the rest of the cast members in the hopes of helping them. Redheart will always go the extra mile and to risk what ever it takes for a friend or patient in need. This can lead her to being a bit overworked and therefore irritable if caught under the wrong circumstances.

Nurse Redheart, ready for action!

I imagine that despite magic and excellent health care some who go into hospitals still die, just as they do in our own world, probably less, but still; I feel this would lead Nurse Redheart to having the most mature outlook on life. Not depressed or gloomy, but she knows there isn't always a happy ending and can be the most realistic and something of a worrier when it comes to her friends and family's safety due to what she's seen. This often leads her to being the voice of reason, but also in some cases over anxious.

As a hobby, when she has the time due to her busy schedule, Redheart serves as a Filly Scouts guide for camping trips and the like, a pony with medical knowledge is extremely helpful in these situations and having been a former fill scout herself this job is very important to her. (You will buy those cookies and you will love them!) Redheart also makes it a point to have a very healthy diet and exercise routine, jogging for at least half a hour each morning, usually to work.

When it comes to something she's passionate about Redheart can be extremely vocal and direct. But under more normal circumstances she's extremely placid and gentle, having cultivated an excellent bedside manner and a naturally caring personality.

She has a large collection of acquaintances, but not many friends when we first meet her, always trying to keep herself busy with work, most activities reserved for relaxing were thrown into her schedule randomly and in private. Redheart takes the concept of responsibility to very seriously and this carries over in how she treats, herself, her patients and her friends.

Notes:
I've considered making her Doctor Redheart, or having her have aspirations for becoming a doctor, but i;'m not sure it's necessary or adds anything to her character, so I probably won't.

I am thinking of making Nurse Redheart, somewhat bookish, and having "nerdy" pass times, such as role playing games and the like.

Redheart also volunteers to do Everfree medical duty, a job that is generally done in short cycles.

I'm struggling to think up a Cutie Mark story for Redheart, any suggestions? I know it should be simple, but i'm having trouble picking one; as it stands i'm thinking that most Cutie Mark seem to be in some cases discovered by chance so maybe Redheart was actively seeking hers and received it, maybe working as a nurses assistant at school in a "do or die" moment? This is more important than it sounds, believe me, so suggestions/idea on how it would go, would be appreciated. :)

This is something of a beta for her character, but i'm pretty happy with it and I find it easier to write if I have something to reference. Hopefully with this my writers block will clear up once I recover from the operation and I might get some more relevant, story writing, done. I can only hope. Anyway I hope you guys like this little bio and if you have any thoughts or suggestions, i'd be more than happy to hear them.

Huzzah,! It's finished, and in record time!

Hmm. Well, somepony's theory on cutie marks (BronyCurious's?) had two phases, I guess, to obtain the cutie mark. You'd have to prove you can do said talent, and I think it was realize you love said talent. Fluttershy did both at once- realized she loved animals, proved she could do stuff with them (talk with them), while RD already realized she loved flying fast and the Rainboom proved she could do it. This can help you get a story going for it. Also, my group for Cadance!verse has been made! :pinkiegasp::pinkiehappy:

That's a good way to look at Cutie Marks; hmm now I need a situation, something that's not too dramatic. Congrats on getting your group started! Once i'm in better shape i'll come look at it. TY for the comment! :pinkiehappy:

1222025 Your welcome! I can't wait for your C!Verse to get started! Also, Return of Tambelon. YUS.

Thanks, I hope if/when it happens it doesn't disappoint!

I've considered making her Doctor Redheart, or having her have aspirations for becoming a doctor, but i;'m not sure it's necessary or adds anything to her character, so I probably won't.

Well, it's an AU, so if you wanted to make her a doctor, there's certainly nothing stopping you. However, I probably wouldn't make her a nurse with aspirations of becoming a doctor as the two jobs really don't have much overlap as one might think and involve different kinds of training. Some nurses might later pursue a medical doctorate, but most people interested in such a degree would just go straight for it and not waste time training as a nurse. If you wanted to a character with who wasn't a doctor yet but in the process of becoming one, that would more likely be a med student doing her residency/internship.

That said, I'd personally encourage you to just stick with her as a nurse, especially if you main reason to do otherwise would be just to avoid gender stereotyping. Admittedly, the idea that only men can be doctors and women have to be nurses instead used to be a big problem, but it's more or less a discredited trope by now, and in both real life and fiction members of both sexes do both jobs. Also, while doctor is still considered a more prestigious and high paying job (and admittedly their work is more difficult), but it's still pretty well known fact that nurses who do most of the actual hands on work and are more involved with the patients.

If she's going to be your Element of Loyalty, I think nurse makes better sense and would afford more dynamic narrative potential

I'm not so sure I'd see actually being any good at the talent as being an absolute requirement for earning a cutie mark. The number one and most important thing by far should be that it's something the pony both enjoys and which makes them feel unique/specially. Being good at that talent certainly helps, but there's no reason why a pony with fairly average skill could still self identify with the talent -- or in extreme cases what makes a pony feel "specially might even be that they are exceptionally bad at something.

Not saying you should take that route with this or any of your other characters. They are heroes, so presumably they would be good at what they do, but what makes them truly exception should have more to do with their heroic qualities than their "magic butt tattoo".

1222769
You are right, that loyalty probably works better with a nurse than a doctor and you certainly guessed correctly that I was worried about falling into stereotyping in regards to making her a nurse. but while it is still a problem it is closer to a discredited trope these days and frankly I do dislike change for the sake of change. So thanks, I'll be keeping her as a nurse. Oh and good point regarding the training and the added dynamic narrative potential as well.

In regards to special talent, I've usually felt that the pony with the talent in question has to at least be, OK at what they are doing, comparatively to how they do everything else but I can see what you're getting at here as well. I'll definitely keep it in mind when working on talents later. I certainly agree that they don't have to be prodigiously skilled, otherwise Equestria would have hundreds o magical geniuses, and medical geniuses, so tying it more to passion does make sense.

Thanks for the advice, it was really helpful! Did you like/find everything else interesting? Maybe for her Cutie Mark story it should just be her getting a first aid certificate and being nervous about the test ETC? It would be harder to make that interesting/dramatic, but not everyone's origins can be steeped in explosions either. Also before I forget, how do the images appear to you, are the images (except for the top one) on the left and right, or stacked up on top of each other?

Also before I forget, how do the images appear to you,

About the pictures, I'm not sure what it is you do with your formatting codes, but in most of your blogs (including this one) there will sometimes be huge gaps in the display and some of the images even break the borders of the blog. Notably, the two alternative uniforms have a gap between them larger than my screen.

Speaking of the alternate uniforms, I really like idea of using the first one as her uniform while on forest patrol. The second one, while cool in it's own right, looks more she's playing a cleric in a game of D&D -- at least to my eyes.

1224758
Hmm that is odd, I usually intend for each image to be spaced with one on the left side and one on the far right, but they shouldn't be as far spaced as you're saying.

Thanks i'm glad you like the first uniforms that's probably my favorite as well and yeah I fully intend for that to be her uniform when on forest patrol. Good point regarding the other uniform, sadly there weren't that many images of Redheart so that's more or less why I used that one.

1225387
As best I can tell, the problem is that you are trying to manually flush the second image to the right by adding 'space' keys (about 160+ of them by my count). While it might look right on your screen, the actual display placement will vary for different users depending on the size of their browser window and default font selection.

It might not be exactly what you want, but instead of...

(img)___~160~___(img)

...you might want to try...

(center)(img)___~20 or 40~___(img)(/center)

That should create a better display on most monitors. Alternatively maybe just only use one image par line instead of trying to double up.

1225961
I see, I was worried that would be a problem. I did try what you suggested, but so far it's only put the pictures on top of each other, I think i'll take your advice and just put one picture in from this point on, I put in two because I felt it framed things better. Though I probably won't go back and change too many, at least not soon, sorry. Thanks for the advice though, when/if I get to the next C!verse post i'll see what I can do about instituting that advice.

oh yeah here's an edit I did on the Background/Side character section after being inspired by this pic, thoughts? :scootangel:
Viynl Scratch and Octavia are Cadence's court musicians and while Cadence dislikes conflict, she is somewhat responsible for egging the two musicians rivalry to greater heights as the two diametrically opposed ponies clash, Viynl representing modern music in Cadence's court and Octavia classical music and when they compete with each other they push one another to higher and higher levels of quality.
