    Kitchen's Closed

I cannot fucking deal with Anthony Bourdain dying before Henry Kissinger.

The only celebrity death to hit me even half this hard was Terry Pratchett. I don't even know where to fucking begin.

A Visual Glossary of Brawlers, Part One

I swear I'm not writing this just because some commenters said all the fight jargon was hard to follow, I'd actually planned to do this as a companion piece all along. Honest.

    Writing again, a bit

They say it's better to burn out than it is to rust, but after a year of adapting to a 50 hour/week desk job and barely writing anything because of it, I say "Why not both?"

Do I still have fans on this site? I hope so, because I've got a new story out! It combines three of my passions: teenage dirtbags, mixed martial arts, and prescription stimulant misuse.

Scarlet's First Ever Story is Out!

So, ScarletWeather, my future wife, is amazing. You all should know this.

For starters, she's my brain. If there has been a coherent arc in any of my stories, a well-crafted bit of characterization, an evil twist, welp, it was probably midwifed if not hatched entirely by Scarlet.

I've been dark for the last few weeks — no updates, no new stories, no comments — and what started as an accidental hiatus has turned into a deliberate one. I'm still very much in adjustment, trying to write around a 40-hour work week, and I realized a few days ago that yes, I am capable of banging out 3000 words in a day, provided that I have all day to do it, I have plenty of motivation and can extend my writing into whatever hour of the morning I desire. This was fine back as a student or layabout, but now, when days off are sometimes split between eight days straight on, when motivation is utterly mercurial even for fine ideas, and when I need my damned eight-hours kip before a ten hour shift, it won't do.

In short, I need to relearn how to write. That means, that for the next however-long-I-feel, most of my fimfiction work will be prompt-based. I want to get into the habit of banging out 1000-1500 words in an hour and then editing, rather than agonizing for three hours over half that before finally getting into the swing. As soon as I feel up to it, I'll finish the SpikeMac fic, and start delivering semi-regular Banishment Decree updates, though these will take a backseat to GR, my new original fiction work that's been far-too-long in waiting.

My reading list has been neglected for damn near a year, so I'm playing catch up, and currently worming through The Mismeasure of Man and Euclid's Window again, Anthropology Goes To War for the first time, and a Jeeves Omnibus because fuck yeah, bertie wooster.

Anyway, I miss all you hoes, but relax. Soon I'll be back in the game and playing for keeps.

Love,

Chuck Finley

xx

Good to know you haven't left us all hanging in the dark. Best of luck with your endeavors.
Cheers, mate.

And I was using your inactivity as an excuse for my relative inactivity.

Fuck. :twilightangry2:

Ah, so you are alive. I was wondering.

So when you say 'promt-based' do you mean you're going to be taking prompts from people? I foresee assloads of oddball cloppy shipfics. Le sigh. :trixieshiftleft:

Can I prompt you to write BD?

A Jeeves Omnibus eh?

Mr. Wodehouse has something to say about that:

"There is, of course, this to be said for the Omnibus Book in general and this one in particular. When you buy it, you have got something. The bulk of this volume makes it almost the ideal paper-weight. The number of its pages assures its posessor of plenty of shaving paper on his vacation. Place upon the waistline and jerked up and down each morning, it will reduce embonpoint and strengthen the abdominal muscles. And those still at their public school will find that between, say, Caesar's Commentaries in limp cloth and this Jeeves book there is no comparison as a missile in an inter-study brawl."
