Just got out of the theater. Initial impressions:
This was awesome! It did everything right in the same way that the 2009 Star Trek movie did, with lots of references and in-jokes, a well-designed plot, sweet animations, and an explanation for the awkwardness that didn't mess up the canon. Semi-spoiler: it's not earth, just a weird alternate dimension with humans, and they all have pony names.
But it did have the most awkward, most out of place Wilhelm scream in history.
If I had one complaint, I wanted to see more background humans that corresponded to background ponies. Where's Derpy? Where's Lyra?
I may write more later, but if you put any stock in my opinion, go see it now.
No Ditzy or Lyra? Damn there goes a legitimate reason to watch it. Then again Vinyl is my favorite and she is in it...
Really well that's a pleasent surprise still if you were impressed and given what I've heard leading up to it I'd say I'm optimistic (Besides I don't care what the stupid trekkies say I thought the 2009 Star Trek movie was good. I didn't like Star Trek Next Gen on anyway. Next Gen was Boring anyway)

I wasn't able to see it yet, living in Germany and shit, but I'd want to go or better watch it at home directly so I can enjoy it properly.
And about Derpy. I think even if she was in there she would've been there with normal eyes and thus not be the Derpy that grew to us so much.

Well, here's the thing: if they actually want to run a Twilight romance storyline, they have the seed of one that they can use without upsetting the world ridiculously. Or, if they want to completely abandon it and keep this a show about friendship and not romance, no one will question that decision.

Nah, just kidding. But TNG has a special meaning to me. When my parents divorced and my father would exercise his visitation rights on Friday nights, we always watched TNG together. He was big into sci fi and fantasy, and got me into it too. So I can't really judge the show objectively. There are too many memories there.

Still from the looks of what I wrote I think perhaps I wasn't being accurate about what I thought of the show do forgive me I can be very impulsive at times, but in light of what you said I will keep my opinions of it to myself.
