Wonder what this means... (Equestria Daily) · 10:31pm Apr 11th, 2013

Thank you for your submission. However, due to issues with comma use, spelling, and capitalization, it cannot be forwarded to the pre-readers. This does not count as a strike.

All the best,
The EqD Team

Any idea what they mean?
This was The Unicorn at Hogwarts that they're referring to - if anyone spots a wrongly used comma, misspelling (remember, I use British commas and spelling, and so informed them) or wrong capitalization, let me know....

I have no idea to tell you the truth. I like it and only complaint which isn't one is that I wish it would update more.

I just re-read it today, and did come across some random commas and capitalizations. It looked like half-finished edits, or places where sentences were rearranged but not 'finished'. I'll try and go back over it tonight or tomorrow, if I get the chance,

And I'll agree with Archivist; I would read more of this story.

Do check the British comma rules, to see if they're what I'm using... (I'm not certain myself.)
If there are comma misuses, I will be glad to correct them.
It's the "spelling and capitalization" which really confuses me...

To be really honest, they've been pretty helpful to me with "This is what I don't like." Have you tried mailing them back with a "Excuse me, could you elaborate a bit more. TUaH is written in british style, much as the HP novels, so certain british rules for spelling and grammar do apply." and see what they say?

Now I did notice a dangling participle in the second paragraph, and to be honest, the first paragraph *does* need a little more bang to it. It is, after all, the hook upon which the reader is baited into the rest of the story. :twilightsheepish:

Send a reply asking if they have any British pre-readers, as you use both the spelling and the comma usage that Great Britain favors. I do believe that there were some capitalization issues in the chapters, but I can't remember anything specific at the top of my head.

I'd suggest finding a few pre-readers to deal with a specific thing: Spelling and Grammar (with the note of you using British-based spelling), Sentence structure, Characterization, Story fluid-ness, etc.

Have them know beforehand that they will be working alongside other pre-readers too, but ask them before that if they are comfortable with working with other pre-readers.

I'm not speaking from personal experience, it's just that's what I'll be doing when I finish planning out my HP/mlp Xover (which will having The Unicorn at Hogwarts having an honorable mention and listed as a source of inspiration, so thanks for that!).

Terribly sorry, I was actually re-reading a completely different MLP/HP story today. Sorry I can't be of much help; I did look back over the first chapter quickly, and didn't notice much out of the ordinary. There are plenty of comas, but they all seem appropriate to me.
