Equestria Daily? · 11:14pm Apr 2nd, 2013

Who thinks I should try submitting my fic "The Unicorn at Hogwarts" to Equestria Daily?
I don't know if it's good enough, basically, or rather I don't know if it will be accepted - I've had bad experiences before (I won't recapitulate them now, it's in my earlier blog posts).
But this fic has done well enough, I feel like I might give it a shot.
Any thoughts, pro or anti?

Equestria Daily will like it. Do it! It's good enough. I enjoy your story SO much!

It is a good story, just make sure to do a FULL edit pass to catch any technical errors before you submit.

Otherwise, I think it is a good idea.

I think you should go for it!

(If you do, you are going to want to go back and fix any grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors from previous chapters. Also make sure you haven't use a homonym of an intended word: You're vs Your, there vs they're vs their... etc.)

Totally do it! If we love Twilight's Adventures In Hogwarts.. So will EQD! :pinkiehappy:

What about intentional ones? (As in, times when speech is a little stilted because that's how the character is supposed to be speaking, or when I use an archaic word usage because both Equestria and the Potterverse have an air of the historic...)

Those are fine. :trollestia:

Overall, the crossover idea is good and working well so far. Definitely want to see more classes!

Though I am curious why we didn't get any Twilight/Snape interaction. You think the magical talking unicorn who is a know it all would attract some attention from him?

No. They'll probably reject it. They seriously follow Sturgeon's Law. A lot of stuff, especially good stuff, gets rejected.

Well, they did meet in chapter two. He's basically ignoring her as much as he can for now, and she's not actively drawing his attention either because she's focusing on making sure Neville can cope.

1) You should go over the chapters so far with a fine-toothed comb, for every spelling, grammar, and phrasing mistake possible. Get one of the wonderful pre-readers/editors that lurk about the Proofreader Group. They'll love you for it.
2) The first submittal will be rejected violently. You will be crushed. You will be told it Tells, not Shows, that your idea is not original, and that a thousand fold spelling errors doth infest the very garments thou weareth across thy back. Greatly wroth wilt thou be, and call forth maledictions and curses in great abundance upon the site of EqD. Naught will it matter, for their word is law unto the site.
3) Life will go on. Hopefully your efforts to fix the early chapters will not interfere with even more chapters being produced and happily consumed by us.
4) Ponies! :pinkiehappy:

Yeah, there's a reason there's a "I hate Equestria Daily" group.

I thought it was something like that! :pinkiecrazy:

(The time that my first two tries with the same fic, with about six changes to the manuscript, got hugely opposed criticisms is on my blog about five or six back. I later worked out that at least part of the problem was that the comma use systems are different between the UK and the US.)

You should at least try.

And I have. Made it clear that I use British English in the comments section of the submission, too, so hopefully that won't count against me.

977690
Yes, I remember that. But what I meant was that you should try with this story.
It doesn't cost you anything, besides a bit of frustration, and you might get some usefull advise out of it. Or not, if it goes like last time, but whatever.

Yeah. I made an extra pass to make sure that this version, at least, is totally clear of wrongly-spelt "McGonogall", wrongly punctuated "Its" and wrongly-capitalized "Miss" and "Mister".

You should do it anyway. Because, well, the laws of probability say that there's always a tiny chance that one of the refused writers will clobber Seth with his own full-sized Trixie body pillow stuffed with rocks. And I'd like to see that.

I have heard of one person who was rejected for "persistent spelling mistakes".
That turned out, after some examination by multiple proofreaders, to be...
British English.
But that's why I specifically said mine was in British English since I'm British, so is Harry Potter, and so (for now) is Twilight Sparkle...

*Imagines a british Twilight Sparkle*
*Rolls on the floor laughing*
