    What is the Tree of Harmony?

    I really don't like the explanation for the Tree given in Shadow Play, Part 2. IMO, it reduces the artefact and removes much of the mystery and wonder for it. Instead, I find myself preferring another explanation. One much like this (with apologises to Arthur C Clarke):

    Call it the Tree of Harmony.

    Plot Bunny #8 - The Guardians of Harmony

    In the aftermath of the Friendship Games, the Mane Seven find that they can increasingly Pony Up on demand. They also start spontaneously showing Equestrian-style powers (e.g. Rainbow can manipulate the weather in localised areas and cloud-walk; Applejack has super-strength; Fluttershy starts hearing her animal friends talk back; Rarity develops telekinesis and an 'instinct' about

Meeting Your Destiny · 11:07am Feb 19th, 2013

In an interview on the documentary 'Bronies', Lauren Faust talks about the destinies she had planned out for the Mane Six. Unsurprisingly, Rarity was to open a boutique in Canterlot and Rainbow Dash was to become a Wonderbolt. Interestingly, it was to be Twilight Sparkle's ultimate destiny to be Celestia's heir and to ultimately rule Equestria.

However, I think that this is too predictable. I think it would be nice if we had some evolution of the characters. Maybe what seemed, at least at first, to be their ideal destiny isn't that at all. What if they decide that losing their friendships and their homes in Ponyville is too high a price to pay to achieve those dreams? "I want my friends, not wealth and fame" would be, in my view at least, a nice little concluding lesson for the series and one that would match the overall theme of the series.

Personally Preferred Destinies:
Twilight - The Princess of Friendship became renowned for investigating mysteries and helping ponies solve their problems throughout Equestria, accompanied by her five true friends. Later, she starts to take on students with particularly unique talents, both unicorns, earth ponies and pegasi; she becomes known as "The Wandering Teacher";
Rainbow Dash - Rainbow ultimately decides against becoming a professional stunt-flyer, remarking that "the price of fame can be too high" - citing Lightning Dust's failure due to her tunnel vision on this matter. Instead, she continues as a weather-mare, ultimately becoming the co-ordinator for the entire Central Equestria region. She aslo becomes a flight teacher for 'slow bloomer' Pegasus colts, saying teaching Scootaloo to fly had inspired her;
Pinkie Pie - Pinkie Pie always remains with her first loves - party-throwing and cake baking. Why should she change?
Fluttershy - After learning discreetly from Zecora for years, Fluttershy gained formal qualification as a beast-healer and apothecary. She continued to care for both ponies' little furry friends and the wild creatures of the Everfree Forest;
Applejack - Applejack continues to care for Sweet Apple Acres; Ponyville's most reliable mare, topples incumbent Mayor Mare in an ill-tempered and dirty-fought election and becomes remembered as one of the county's most visionary and progressive leaders. She ultimately marries Lt. Soarin of the Wonderbolts; he made it clear that he could never be apart from the mare he loves (and her apple pies);
Rarity - After a few bad experiences, Rarity realised that she had no desire to expose herself to the rampant snobbery and back-stabbing one-upmanship of Canterlot. Instead she focussed on making Carousel Boutique the place to go to for the very best dresses in Central Equestria, if not the entire civilised world. Mayor Applejack later credited her friend with attracting a lot of high-class clientèle and big money to Ponyville;
The Cutie Mark Crusaders
Sweetie Belle discovered that her singing ability was a rare magical talent known as choromancy (spell-singing); she became Princess Twilight Sparkle's first personal student and travelled with her for many years before returning to her first love of performing and (later) teaching music;
Applebloom proved to be a talented handy-mare and became one of the first class of earth ponies to graduate with degrees in mechanical engineering from the reformed and expanded Alicorn School for Gifted Ponies;
Scootaloo found, much to her horror, that her special talent was agility and dance. After being told that being a professional dancer was 'cool' by Rainbow Dash, she became one of the most flexible and famed dancers in Equestria. She is credited with created the street-dancing form known as Shatterdance (similar to break-dancing but for quadrupeds);
Spike - Spike chose to travel with Princess Twilight Sparkle for many years after Sweetie Belle retired from adventuring. As he developed, his growing size made it harder to get into places, he returned to Canterlot where he quickly developed celebrity as the first widely known gemstone chef.
Big Mac - After finally getting the guts to propose to Cherilee (being tied up and delivered on the back of a cart to her by the Mane Six probably hastened his decision), Big Mac increasingly runs the farm, especially after Applejack's attention broadens to all of Ponyville County and Applebloom starts her own business. He and Cherliee focus the rest of their lives being diabetes-inducingly in love and raising an improbably large brood of Earth Pony foals.
