Update - Celestia Fic & Another Survey of Sorts! · 6:13pm Feb 10th, 2013
My apologies my friends. I was hoping to have this blog up late last night. Now, after I got up from my nap, I ended up spending the rest of the day hanging out with my best friend. But I still have today and tomorrow (until I got back into work at 11pm). So there is still plenty of time for me to write!
Okay then, on to the update. Currently, chapter 6 of "You Brighten My Day" is sitting at 6,182 words, but since 852 words of that is the first version of the "I Love You" scene, I will be saving those in a "Deleted Scenes" file, because I've got an even better idea for the scene in mind, and it will tie in with one of the major events in this chapter. And for now, I'm going to write all the scenes I have planned for chapter 6, including Daniel and Celestia's second love scene. Once I'm done, I'll gauge the length and determine if I should split it into two chapters. But some of you said go for the long chapter. That and I've seen plenty of fics on here with chapters totaling over 23,000 words! Now I don't think this chapter will come remotely close to that length. I just wanted you all to be aware that it could reach 13,000-14,000 depending on the scenes, which are of an undetermined length at the moment. I honestly don't have a problem with making a chapter that length, but the downside is that it will take longer till its posted, but on the other hand, it will be packed full of more content! I'm sure those of you that love this story won't mind at all!
Now your eyes aren't deceiving you, the word "Survey" is once again in my blog title. This one relates, again, to my Celestia story. I was just curious about hearing your thoughts on how long Celestia should be on Earth. This is not a vote, I will ultimately make my own choice, but I do value your input as always. So that in mind, how long should she stay?
A. 1-2 months
B. 6 months
C. 1 year
D. More than 1 year
And keep in mind, back in chapter 1, Luna never said how long Celestia could take for her time off, and that she hadn't had any true time off in months, not to mention from the countless years she spent watching over Equestria. So keep that in mind. Personally, I'm leaning towards C. 1 year. Now in order to keep the story from becoming stale or keeping to tired a pace, I'll be doing just like chapter 4 and elapsing time and doing key scenes as time passes.
I also have one more thought, not related to my Celestia fic, that I wanted to share with all of you. I heard that Season 3 was going to have more episodes, but I haven't confirmed that rumor. But I'm not here to talk about the show. However, I will note my delight at hearing that Season 4 is confirmed at 26 episodes! Anyway, let me get to my point. Since I became a brony, I've always been very fond of Twilight, and despite Nurse Redheart, the spa twins - Aloe & Lotus, Luna and Celestia, I still like Twilight very much! Now, even if things turn out that she ascends and becomes an alicorn, it no longer bothers me. I'll still write stories in which she's a unicorn, I'll always love her best that way. Though, I'm equally thrilled with the idea of writing stories with her as an alicorn. Now, I'm not going to say anything other than this, I have an alicorn Twilight story in the works. The idea came to me as I was waking up this morning. It should be a very heartwarming story, the type you've come to expect from me. But for now, that's all I'm going to say. Sorry for begin so cryptic, but as Discord said, "Where's the fun in making sense?" =D

And hmm, this is an interesting change of what I thought you'd be doing with the Celestia story. I had thouht you'd slightly mirror (key word, slight) the Luna one in terms of bringing the human over to Equestria rather quickly. I would pick a time period between 6 months to 12 months at that.
As far as chapter length, let the chapter write itself. I just had one run away from me and end up at a little over 10,000. (Average being ~4,500). If you personally feel the chapter length might chase some folks away, gracefully find a split point near the center and do just that.
Looking forward to the next blog report, or a story update, whichever comes first. Your HiEs Romance might be a little cheesy, but it's what I love!

How long should Celestia stay on Earth? That's honestly a hard question to answer...she undoubtedly left Equestria with a guideline of how long she wanted to stay away, because she knows eventually she must return to her sister and her kingdom...but of course, love has a funny way of changing things like that, and Daniel, humanity, and Earth fascinate her...she deserves to be 'selfish' and, for once in her long long life, actually spend time as simply 'Celestia', and experience things like personal love and all the other simple pleasures of life unhindered; and she is...by being in a foreign world where she is not the Princess, she is free to experience these things genuinely.
That said, she knows she has her responsibilities and as much as she enjoys Daniel, she undoubtedly knows she can't stay forever....forever is a funny word for a being who can live indefinitely, but being that humans and ponies live for about the same lifespan....while she could live out the rest of Daniel's ordinary lifespan if she chose; living with him on Earth, and loving him, for as long as she can before he dies....at that point, she would have no choice but to return to Equestria, unless she found someone else on Earth or something else there to live for....but at that point, it's debatable if she really is being selfish....after all, unless Time works differently between these two worlds, if she stayed with Daniel and lived out the rest of his lifespan, it would also mean she wouldn't be around for the remainder of the Twilight and the Mane 6's lives; a whole generation of ponies...
It's a curious question and really depends on how you are intending to present this -- the Best route would be if Daniel actually went with Celestia back to Equestria...that way, she could have the best of both worlds and not have her heart tugged in two direction....he, and a whole generation of ponies/humans would die, but that can't be helped in any case (unless of course, you wanted to change that as well); as before, it really depends on what kind of story you want to tell....if Daniel is to remain on Earth and Celestia to eventually return to Equestria, then I suppose the answer to how long they should be together is "as long as it can"....it can't go on forever, but even if their is a set limit, it wouldn't matter so long as they enjoyed every minute of it.
Though I suppose to answer your question....a full year sounds good -- any longer, and Celestia may get too cozy, but any shorter feels like they should have had more time....again, the amount of time is irrelevant to the quality, but a full year from the moment they meet? I like that...I like the sound of that

. Personally, I would prefer you make a story as she is as a unicorn, because I feel she'll be alot better like that, but I'm certain to love whatever you make.

Also nice to hear that you have an alicorn Twilight story in the works. I'm actually neutral about the whole alicorn Twilight thing. I'm just going to see what happens in the episode and see how they pull it off.
I believe D is the most realistic of options. Think about it everypony. If you had the burden of carrying a world on your shoulders and you just find love again, drive, passion; something to live for after centuries; can you honestly tell me you would give it up with no problem after a couple of weeks and bury yourself under the pile of work? I sure as hell wouldn't. I'd like to know more about the world and soak up as much as I can. In all honesty, I would return several years later after being able to relax and enjoy a more relaxing, better paced lifestyle that doesn't fall into repeated monotony.
I'd vote for 1 to 2 months. She has duties back home. One aspect of the story addressed will no doubt be whether Celestia can take Daniel with her, in my opinion. But it doesn't make sense that she stays half a year as a stay-at-home girlfriend/lover (unless she finds a way to mingle with humans without her true nature discovered).
Well I am at a crossroads so to speak, from what I understand you want to mix your Celestia and Luna story together at some point or at least you wanted to some time ago. I could understand Celestia being on earth for a year but I think that is a bit too much time, I am leaning towards 6 months. Here is why, In your Luna story Luna came back with the one she loved, and Celestia turned out to be overjoyed
. I also like how Luna wanted him to meet her sister, so I think Celestia would want to do the same thing that way he can meet Luna and their two lovers could finally meet. Or that least that is the way I am thinking, but here is where I am kind of lost. I know Luna is watching over Equestria while Celestia is away, But is Luna’s lover with her in Equestria at this time while Celestia is away?

In some ways, I was sorry that I had Luna bring David back to Equestria so soon and leave Earth after little more than a week, but she was only mildly injured and knew she could not linger too long. Now, with Celestia and Daniel. First off Celestia came to Earth of her own accord, so that granted me more flexibility right off the bat. So I plan to have fun with this idea, even if some recent developments may have cost me a reader or two. The lion's share are still following and I am very grateful!
Now, as for chapter size. Most of the time I let a story write itself, so to speak. My chapter/story lengths are usually just a rough projection, and I tend to be flexible, like I did with my 3rd Redheart fic. I thought it was going to be 19-20k in length and it ended up almost becoming 30k in length.
And I'm hopeful my Twilight stories will be good, yep plural, two ideas are currently in the planning phases!

Your points are all valid, and like you said, she deserves to be selfish just this once and in light of her newly found love, she should be able to enjoy at least for a while. And rest assured, I already have the ending of this thought out, not to the letter, but a very powerful scene that I long to write.

That's why I have two Twilight fics in the works. One where she's a unicorn and one where she is an alicorn. Both should be quite enjoyable once they are complete!
Choice C, a good choice my friend, same one I was planning on going with! And as for Twilight, I'm not unlike you. I was resistant to the idea at first, but now it's good either way. I'll always like Twilight as a unicorn, but can't hate her if she'd become an alicorn. Like you, I want to see how Hasbro pulls this off. Since there has been a lot of speculation about the end, I've spent the past several months working on ideas, and have one I've chosen that should make for a powerful wrap-up to this story!

Oh don't worry, I have ideas in the works for Celestia while she remains on Earth. And this story is like a living breathing organism, it can grown and change as it moves along. Aside from the ending, nothing is completely in stone. I just want Celestia to be on Earth long than Luna was in my Luna fic. Trust me when I say, I can make her staying up to a year work.

Sorry if I wasn't able to answer you properly, but I can't risk spoiling the story for you, not yet anyway! 
The combining of both fics is on hold for now. Before I can do that or even think about it, I have to finish "A Total Eclipse of Their Hearts" and ultimately, I'll need to finish this one as well. As far as your little rant, I'm sorry that I can't answer your question, not without spoiling anything. Until I get both stories completed, I won't know how well the merger of both story lines will work. But it does have merit. I still have to smile, the idea of combining both stories came to me when I was watching "The Dark Knight Rises" in the theater. I don't know if it was the complex story with all of its fun revelations or the epic music of Hans Zimmer that helped spawn the idea. But I know that's when it first came to me.
Option A or B seems the most reasonable option. One, she would have to get extremely bored just staying in the one place for so long and begin to get cabin fever. Two, there is a gateway. She can come back any time! A fifth option could be she returns to Equestria and takes her lover with her. He doesn't seem to have all that much tying him to his world and could make a life for himself in Equestria, especially with Celestia backing him. And, with them both in Equestria, they can have their lives and duties, and return to each other whenever!
As for bridging your two stories together, I don't see how that is possible to do fluidly without drastically editing a few things. For one, in the Luna story, there is no known gateway. One just happens to appear and Luna gets sucked in. In Celestia's story, there is a known gateway that she willingly travels through. Unless Luna is not aware of the gateway, somehow, there are just too many inconsistencies between the histories of the stories to bridge them together effectively.

You make a valid point, but surly if Celestia can run Equestria for 1,000 years on her own, then why can't Luna handle things for a single year? Besides, Celestia is well aware of her duties. Keep reading and you'll find out. And as some mentioned, sometimes the heart wants what it wants, even in defiance to logic.

After all, they may not be happy that one of the 'rulers' is going away, so... 6 months would be good, but if you can pull off 1 year with communication, that'd be fantastic.

I personally say, B or C because it takes time to mature a good romance. Not much for me to add because If I were in your shoes I also would be leaning the same way you are, mostly due to the fact that since Celestia is very mature and knowledgeable, she would easily be able to understand that one cannot rush into any type of relationship without first truly understanding the other in body and soul. Just like she is doing right now!

Hooray for more surveys! I really like how much you like to interact with in this way! As I've said before, it's always nice to be able to talk to our favorite authors.
This one is particularly tricky. Many here have brought up some great points about much time she should spend being "free" and her having to eventually go back home for her responsiblities.
(I'm just gonna start, I lost my previous draft and am a bit scatterbrained atm, so please excuse my hodgepodge way of explaining myself)
This fic is very well done in many ways, I'm glad Celestia's journey to Earth has been so beneficial for her, in more ways than just meeting a lover. Celestia and Daniel's relationship is rather fascinating, She really couldn't have found a better person suited for her travel. Daniel is a perfect embodiment of the better, if not best, parts of what humanity has to offer (in relative terms):
- The technology he has, while basic to us, comes off as incredible to her (Especially his air cooler!
); a great representation of how humans have advanced since the time she's seen them.
-His general kindness and respect for her is undoubtedly one of the greater aspects of their meeting, can you imagine if she stumbled into the house of some random jerk?
-But, the greatest and most important thing about their meeting is how tragically alone they both were.
It's heartwrenchingly beautiful how these two have utterly connected in the waysJaydex has described them, especially their lonliness and how they've both grown to fill the holes in their hearts.
Daniel is the Human race personified in some ways, sure, maybe he's not working at NASA or can lift a car with ease, but he represents what we all like to view our species as: Kind, selfless, smart and respectful. Celestia left to go see how the Humans have evolved since she's last seen them, and Daniel is all she needs.

On the topic of them moving, one would think it'd be as simple as "just go back to Equ." but it's really not. An obvious point, but oh well. As many have mentioned before, it's only a matter of time before she has to go back to her responsibilities (Which I'll get to), but it's entirely possible, though not the best idea, that she decides to stay on Earth. Daniel and Celestia view time much differently and to her, 100 years (or less than 70 - 80 rather) isn't long considering what she's done. It's entirely within her reach to decide to live this more fruitful and meaningful life as a normal being with David on Earth until they "part". An unfortuante topic I hope we never have to see!
But! She does have responsibilites, her friends, her sisters and an entire nation to think about, so I think that a year or two would be a fair time for them.
Small note: My first draft was far better. Much more information packed in, so sorry.

Have no fear about losing your first draft. You touched upon some very valid points as several others have as well. Like you, I figured, given all Celestia has done for her kingdom and subjects, surely a year off isn't that out of the question. Besides, I never said she was abandoning Equestria or completely forgetting her duties. But in the meantime, I don't understand why some seem to think Luna can't handle things for a single year. She is hardly a push over. And I'd like to think she has begun making new friends and started adapting to life following her return, but I'm not here to have any in-depth debates. I don't want to end up spoiling anything in the process. But plenty of valid points have been touched upon in a wide variety of ways. Which is why I have greatly enjoyed holding these open surveys! They allow me to share your thoughts and feelings and see what all of you are thinking.
And getting back to losing your first draft, I totally know how that feels. I was working on chapter 6 earlier this after and had a hiccup in the power. I lost nearly 500 words. Even thought I clicked save 3 times in word, ironically just moments before the power went out. But after taking a break, and clearing my head, I was able to recall enough to safe face.
That was scary though. And that's considering I do backup my work frequently.

Luna seems more than perfectly capable of ruling for a year in her sister's stead, but that is just my opinion. I think a year is a good amount of time myself. I doing a story that I haven't quite submitted yet, but I'm having Applejack's time spent on earth (as a human) be about two months, planed that is. After that...things get even more complicated but I digress.

Thanks for the well wishes on my story, and you know what? I think I'll start submitting it now after all. I was gonna put it off until I start submitting my other stories, but what the hay. I'm already 13 chapters in, so why put it off any longer eh? The whole thing got pretty big, like every story I come up with. It...um...Applejack as a human ends up in a war against demons in the human world. Weird huh? Not only that, but it's first person from the point of a demon hunter. Did I mention she's the love interest?

You know, I just have one quandary...why does everyone seem to think Luna can't handle running things for a mere year? Celestia did it for 1,000 years on her own. And Luna is every bit a fine ruler as her elder sister. Besides, one year away will not ruin their chances of ruling together, not by a long shot. But don't worry, I knew there would be some concerns to address with my proposing Tia staying on Earth for a year. I've got some new ideas that should help please everyone, myself included and allow me to tell this tale as I want to! There will still be some that won't like it, but hey, those are sometimes the breaks. Still, I'm grateful for every ones' feedback.

I wasn't saying that Luna is an incapable Ruler. I only figured that Celestia shouldn't be gone for too long otherwise it would make the ponies worry and panic, but knowing you that won't be the case. I must've been tired when I made my last comment so please disregard it. It's your story and I trust you on where you'll take it.

And worry not, I do understand where you're coming from. At the very least, I think I'll shift things to Equestria to at least show what's going on. I do have some things planned for Luna and they aren't quite what everyone is dreading. But it should be an enjoyable surprise as well. 
No, the misunderstanding was mine. I didn't realize you and possibly some others consider Luna as being incapable to rule alone. But I thank you for the vote of confidence, on trusting where I will take this. I do have this planned. But all the opinions shared by you and the others have at least given me some ideas. I'll certainly be proceeding with care, but then I usually do.
