The children I know are sort of familiar with old school ponies, thanks to yours truly. I'd be working with a mix of both -- And believe it or not, there's a G1 pony names Quakers! That covers Q, if I can't come up with something better.
And some of the words won't necessarily be pony names, but other thing associated wth MLP (like "E is for Equestria"). I think I can cover all the letters, if I put a lot of thought in to it.
