Volgrand's reviews: Past Sins · 7:24pm Feb 7th, 2013
"Twilight had never had anypony look at her like that, and it caused her indignation to cool. She lifted her hoof and reached out as slowly as possible. The result was the same. The filly shied away, whimpered, trembled, and succeeded in injuring herself further on the bush’s thorns.
It was a reaction of pure fear."
If I had to write my first full review on a story, it had to be for the one that brough me to FimFiction in the first place. I discovered it navigating though DeviantArt, and the image I posted below showed me a link to this fantastic story.
Past Sins is, in no doubt, a great work. From the first pages I felt captivated by the way Pen Stroke described the actions. Mixing the exact parts of description and actions, the story flows by itself. The main character, Nyx, is wonderfully developed. Her conflicted nature is shown in each chapter, in each act of self-discovering. And man, when she firstly enter in scene, you cannot help but by reading it chapter after chapter, just wishing "what happened then!?".
Although the story is tagged as "Dark", I have to say that the darker of it is the night itself. I was expecting a way darker story, as there are many "evil" ponies involved on it. Specially in some scenes, I would have expected more signs of the cruelty of the Brotherhood. Abusing their power in the cities, abusing of the prisioners, detaining more ponies for unfair reasons... you get my point.
So my friends, if you enjoy dark stories, conflicted personalities, and discovering the light inside the darkest soul of Equestria, go and read Past Sins. I promise you will enjoy it.
