It's the fifth of the month, so you know what that means...
That's right! It's time for another in-depth analysis on clopping!
Specifically, I'm talking about Rule 34 statistics. For those of you who have missed the previous entries into this series, I've archived them below.
As of Feb. 5, 2013, here's the state of Rule 34, according to Rule34.paheal.net:
Pokemon still holds the lead with 56,775 images. 1,581 new explicit images were added during January, giving Pokemon a 2.8% increase in porn from last month.
Touhou is in second place with 34,190 images. 896 new explicit images were added during January, giving Touhou a 2.6% increase in porn from last month.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is in third place with 24,168 images. 1,497 new explicit images were added during January, giving My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic a 6.6% increase in porn from last month.
DC Comics is in fourth place with 18,918 images. 633 new explicit images were added during January, giving DC Comics a 3.3% increase in porn from last month.
Street Fighter is in fifth place with 14,581 images. 302 new explicit images were added during January, giving Street Fighter a 2.1% increase in porn from last month.
Marvel Comics is in sixth place with 13,770 images. 266 new explicit images were added during January, giving Marvel Comics a 1.9% increase in porn from last month.
Naruto is in seventh place with 13,762 images. 613 new explicit images were added during January, giving Naruto a 4.6% increase in porn from last month.
Sonic Team is in eighth place with 11,301 images. 215 new explicit images were added during January, giving Sonic Team a 1.9% increase in porn from last month.
Digimon is in ninth place with 10,095 images. 148 new explicit images were added during January, giving Digimon a 1.4% increase in porn from last month.
For the first time since I've been recording these numbers, My Little Pony did not produce the highest monthly number of explicit imagery. That honor goes to Pokemon, which churned out more spank material in January than any other intellectual property. Pokemon actually managed to double their monthly amount of porn when compared to their December numbers. This huge increase was due to the January 8 announcement of Pokemon 'X' and 'Y.'
The games are set for an Oct. 2013 release. Expect to see Pokemon's porn numbers continue to climb in the coming months as more new characters from the games are revealed.
I don't know what this says about the brony fandom. What's the reason behind the decreased porn production? Was season three of MLP so underwhelming that pornographers within the fandom felt less inspired to create new art?
Part of the problem was the reduced number of episodes this season. As a result, there were fewer new characters introduced.
King Sombra has 80 explicit images.
Uncle Curio has 1 explicit image.
The Saddle Arabian Delegates have 5 explicit images.
Babs Seed has 88 explicit images.
Lightning Dust has 33 explicit images.
Ginger Snap has 7 explicit images.
(The debate regarding the filly scout's name appears to have been settled. I think Ginger Snap's a fine choice.)
The combined total of new porn images from characters introduced in season three makes up less than one percent of MLP porn.
The sad thing is, the porn numbers for January would've been even lower if it hadn't been for the Twilight alicorn drama. When Twilight Sparkle was confirmed to be an alicorn at the end of January, the brony fandom saw a momentary spike in productivity as artists rushed to flood the Internet with alicorn Twilight porn.
As of this writing, there's still two more episodes left before the end of season three. Hopefully, we can go out with a bang before the long wait until season four starts.
The Naruto juggernaut has lost some momentum since last month, but shows no signs of stopping. The series is only eight pornographic images away from catching up to Marvel comics.
It's safe to assume that by next month the Shonen Jump All-star will have jumped into sixth place. Believe it!
I'd also like to welcome back Digimon, who kept straddling the line after dropping below 10,000 explicit images last month. The series is now back on track and will hopefully be able to maintain a slow but steady climb from here on out.
Here's an update on Rule 34 images for the mane six:
Twilight Sparkle has 3,734 images. 195 explicit images were added during January, giving her an 5.5% increase from last month.
Rainbow Dash has 3,328 images. 156 explicit images were added during January, giving her a 4.9% increase from last month.
Pinkie Pie has 2,902 images. 145 explicit images were added during January, giving her an 5.2% increase from last month.
Fluttershy : has 2,795 images. 149 explicit images were added during January, giving her a 5.6% increase from last month.
Rarity has 2,310 images. 130 explicit images were added during January, giving her a 5.9% increase from last month.
Applejack has 2,247 images. 145 explicit images were added during January, giving her a 6.8% increase from last month.
Special thanks to Infinion, who made these nifty graphs of the data I collected.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is the third-largest porn producing intellectual property on the Internet. That's quite an achievement for a fandom this young. Bronies have climbed the ladder of porn to reach the heights which only two other fandoms have seen. We're all familiar with Pokemon and its iron grip on the number one spot, but today I'd like to talk about the phenomenally-popular series perched on the second place rung directly above My Little Pony.
Of all the series' on the 10K+ Porn Club, nearly all of them are familiar to a western audience, with one possible exception.
Sandwiched in between Pokemon and My Little Pony is a series called Touhou. Some of you may be unfamiliar with it.
In this day and age where the big knobs at Nintendo and Hasbro pull the strings for Pokemon and My Little Pony, respectively, it's sometimes hard to believe that Touhou could become such a world-wide phenomenon without a big studio backing.
Touhou goes against the grain, while still managing to become one of the most popular game series ever, with a rabid fanbase. It's not the result of cleverly calculated marketing, but a labor of love by one extremely talented man named Junya Ota, better known as ZUN.
The Touhou Project is a series of Japanese computer games in the "bullet hell" genre. The series is made by the development team Team Shanghai Alice, whose sole member, ZUN, is responsible for all the graphics, music, and programming. The Touhou Project was inducted into the Guinness World Records in October 2010 for being the "most prolific fan-made shooter series".
This video helps to further explain Touhou's influence.
In the games, players fly around in a 2D space, firing at enemies that appear while avoid their attacks. This might sound simple enough, until you see the game in action.
In Touhou, all the characters are underage girls. The lack of any males has resulted in all the characters being shipped with one another. Remind you of any other series?
Like the brony community, Touhou fans are famous for their fanmade content. Music remixes from the games, fanmade games of various genres and tons of fanart. Some bronies have even begun to ponify Touhou fan videos.
Here's the Touhou fan video for contrast.
Much like the My Little Pony and Pokemon fandoms, Touhou's fans produce an inordinate amount of fanart. It's no surprise then that the Touhou porn produced would be exponentially high as well.
In spite of its relative obscurity when compared to the other titles on the list, Touhou definitely earns its spot. It may never be a household name like Pokemon or spawn blockbuster movie franchises like Marvel or DC comics, but Touhou has a fandom which rivals all others.
As of this writing, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is scheduled to air in Japan by April of this year.
One can only dare to dream what kind of content will emerge if Touhou fans embrace Friendship is Magic.
Clever marketing and big name studios are all well and good, but Touhou just goes to show that a creative spark is the most important part of anything worthwhile.
