So, Silent Ponyville 4 may as well be cancelled

Silent Ponyville 4 is a strange enigma, in the sense that, I have the entire story planned out in my head, and even have the notes of what I want to have happen, but I haven't touched the story in such a long time. And every time I sit down to try and work on it, my brain fries, I can't get the words out, and I end up moving on to work on something else. And with FiM having officially ended, and

Disgaea: Disharmony of Friendship - The Story that Never Was

So once upon a time, over on the ye-olde land of Deviant Art, around the same time I was writing Silent Ponyville originally, I was writing a story called Disgaea: Disharmony of Friendship! It was a Disgaea crossover, and I even made a whole flash intro for it and only ever finished Chapter 1 of the fic.

    A public service announcement!

Are you tired of the same old Anon-a-Miss fics that just deal with all the exact same tropes in the exact same way? Tired of them be constantly dreary and depressing, dealing with dark topics that don't befit the original topic? Tired of the Mane 5 being irredeemable monsters for thinking their bully has gone back to being a bully?

Have you ever wanted to own Silent Ponyville as a physical book? I know I have!

Well, now it's possible! Someone was kind enough to format the project together into an easy, print-on-demand service!

Fate/Equestria Girls delayed, not on Hiatus

So my original goal and intention was that Fate/Equestria Girls would get an update at least once a month, 1 chapter every 30 days seemed reasonable and do-able with my current schedule. I'd get my webcomics updates out, I'd be able to take down time for games or personal art and just generally whatever I wanted to do. And it was working out great!

It's always kind of funny · 9:29pm Jan 31st, 2013

I made Silent Ponyville not too long after getting into the fandom, to ME it feels like a bit of a sloppy fanfic that was riddled with grammatical errors and repetition out the ass (WITH ALL OF HER MIGHT), and yet it STILL gets passed around and is said to be one of the best fanfics people have read.

And of course I made sequels to it, to half loving it more and the other half liking the first more. It’s weird how that works as well, the sequels seem to be for a more ‘niche’ market while the original is for everyone.

It’s funny, because you never really know what work you make will be passed around and spoken about the most. I would’ve thought Pregnant Scootaloo would be more well known than Silent Ponyville, but nope. Even now I STILL get new fanart of Silent Ponyville, new comments saying how much they loved the fic, and how for a lot of people it’s what got them into fanfiction. And that’s STILL a YEAR AND A HALF LATER.

I just… who would’ve thought, you know? When I wrote it I just wanted to prove that horror stories could be better than Cupcakes. I guess I proved my point huh?

Oh yes you did. Glad to have read it all that time ago.

Yes, you did. Great job on that and Pregnant Scootaloo!

We love ya, Jake!

Well I always enjoyed Silent hill from when I first played it and the way you wrote the story it was easy to imagine the setting and fear coming off of Pinkie

You did proved it, sir.

And we are thankful, yes we are... :pinkiecrazy:

I like the 2nd one best

I know the feel bro. Gold Star has clearly been higher on the scale of critically acclaimed, and The Story of My Life is still my highest ranked story. To top it all off, I've put 90% of my effort into the Dissonance Saga. :rainbowlaugh:

Now that you've brought it up, though, am I to take over the Silent Ponyville saga again, or are you actually going to publish a chapter? :duck:

JAKE! JAKE! Go to thatguywiththeglasses.com right now and scroll through the little box thing at the top of the page! DO IT! Theres a surprise!

Indeed, you did prove your point. I still consider Silent Ponyville my favorite pony fan fiction and it got me wanting to try my own hand at writing fan fics. Keep doing what you do, man. Your stories are great.

I've got a WiP going, it's about 5k words at the moment. I come back to it every-so-often and add to it. It's slowly being made, but it's being made.

778931

Yes I know, that's what inspired the new journal post xD

I still like your Disgaea fic best...

Well SP1 was just a great collaboration of the two series despite its flaws. While mixed together, one series didn't completely over power the other for the center spotlight as they work hand in hand rather well. Not to mention how well it fits with MLP canon (ignoring some of the personal touches like slashing n' so forth). It's even one of the main stories here that have inspired me to come write for FiM Fic.

Yes, a nice touch up of a rewrite for SP1 would be great. I'd love to help, but too bad I'm obviously a bad pick for grammar fixin'.

I don't regret reading it. It's what got me into writing in the first place.

If you wish for an editor to help, I'm open for the foreseeable future.

maybe you can add scootaloo from the pregnant scootaloo universe to one of SP3's chapters and then make a little non canon comic on the blog. (like both points of view)
Maybe mixing a little from each one you could get something different, i liked that strip when scoots made the reference that RD and Fluttershy where doing "stuff" in Fluttershy's cottage. :scootangel:
just some ideas :derpytongue2:

Waiting for more SP3, and also i really don't care about the grammar, nor did SP1 seem repetitive to me.
SP1 was really good to me because i actually never finished SH1 because it scared the shit out of me XD so making BrainTV while reading made the same effect, and much more because i read at night, in the dark (netbook), then i was scared of going to the bathroom because even if i knew it was a story i couldnt stop thinking one of those mothafuckas would crawl out of the dark and attack me >_<

I wish I read this post sooner! Just stopped by TGWTG a while ago and was coming back to bring the hypest of news only to see that you beat me to it! :rainbowlaugh:

778931

Uh... to what are you referring?

You can count me among those who loves the first--sorry, I know as a creator it can be frustrating when people single out something old you made as their favorite thing =P But it's not that I don't like your other stuff too, SP1 just happens to be my favorite.

And I admit that it's not perfect--the thing I notice is that the prose is a little ... redundant? ... at times. But, for me, it's not so bad that it's distracting, and the story makes up for it. It just works.

He's referring to the casting call for a Silent Ponyville audio drama I posted recently.
Direct link is here: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/bt/dn/denamisc/38096-casting-call-silent-ponyville-audio-drama

Most of us sincerely appreciate a good dark fiction.

I mean, come on, even the most fuzzy of us bronies and pegasisters have heard of the "greats" (take that word with a grain of salt) of our fandom when it comes to horror.

Cupcakes, Sweet Apple Massacre, Rainbow Factory, Awoken, and on and on and on.

But truly it is something when a fan can read something from another's mind and find it not just disturbing, butengaging.

I will be picking up this series once I have finished with my plethora of need to read piles.

Best of luck with the rest of your writing projects.:ajsmug:

That you posted!? Okay, here's a question. For most of the story, the cast consists exclusively of Pinkie Pie. It opens with Twilight. There are some flashbacks scattered through. But that's not much. So... who exactly are you casting for?

It seems like a lot of work for characters that only have one or two lines each.

844628
*shrug* not sure what's a lot of work about it. People send me their voice work as MP3's, I edit them together and provide the narrative. I make Silent Hill retrospective videos--this will probably involve a lot less work than that, since it's all audio.

But actually there are a lot of characters other than Pinkie Pie and Twilight--most of them show up in flashback and a lot of them only have a few lines, but there's basically 14 characters in all. Pinkie's grandmother has most of the dialog in her scene, and Octavia has a pretty good amount of dialog too, as does Rainbow Dash.

844668

Yeah, I'm just talking about the audition tapes you'll need to go through to pick the right cast.

844860
Ah, okay. Yah, admittedly, I did get a crazy amount of auditions for bit parts due to most of my viewers being male and that got to be a bit of a pain. But mainly I just kept a notepad file where I took down the names of only the ones that sounded really good to me at first, then I went back and narrowed it down. I ended up having to close auditions for the male characters once I figured I had more than enough good ones to choose from.

But I'm mostly past that part--I've got all the characters cast, now I'm only taking auditions for the monsters until the end of February and that'll be it for that stage.

846062

Yeah, considering they were mostly small bit parts, you were probably better off doing it yourself or asking a friend.

You're auditioning for the monsters too? Huh... Might throw my throat in the ring then. I can growl pretty damn good. Got the guttural sounds down son!

Might have to reread to remember what they sound like.

850967
Well, there aren't too many people I know online who I figured would be interested in doing this, and the ones who would, I don't know what their acting skills are like. Figured I'd get the best end result this way.

Cool, go for it!. The document I link to in this video has all the descriptive stuff on the monsters: http://youtu.be/8R4_XvBTsbs

852072

Interesting... Hang on. YouTube? Do you have any idea how awkward it is to convert a simple sound file into a video? And unnecessary?

Honestly though, I don't know why you would insist on making it so public. Is it Pop Idol style? Call an 800 number to choose your favourite?

I don't understand this modern obsession with abandoning email. It's so simple, it works for anything, and it's secure. No, we have to use facebook mail or whatever.

Sorry, now I'm ranting.

853599
On second thought, nevermind.

856516

What do you mean? What I do?

856516

Honestly, did I offend you? If so I apologize.

860549

Apology accepted. It seemed like you were coming across as overly critical of my methods, and it wore a bit thin after awhile. I don't know you or anything, so maybe you were just kidding around or something and I took it too seriously. In any case, no big ^.^

861490

Well, I criticize everything. But it's never antagonistic. In fact just the opposite. This is me being nice.

If I wanted to be mean I'd lie and tell you everything you do is perfect when it's actually terrible. Then you try to get published or something and they tell you it's terrible and you go, "why didn't anyone tell me!?" :raritycry: See that's mean. Actually that's what happened to me recently. I'm a little bitter about it.

I honestly think this is a good idea, I'm just surprised you'd bother going through that much work, for such little payout. Passion for the art I guess?

I have no idea how to post audio to youtube. Ooo! I got an idea! :pinkiehappy:

861970
Fair enough.

"Passion for the art I guess?"
That's part of it, I guess. Any time I do something creative, I tend to go all out, and I do get some revenue through Blip. My videos aren't hugely popular, but my viewers appreciate the effort put into a good presentation.

As for YouTube, what a lot of people are doing is making a video out of their audio with a still image of whatever they're auditioning for as the visual. Some are just putting the name of it in text, and I think at least one person just had a black screen for the whole thing.
