My thoughts on Alicorn Twilight · 11:02pm Jan 29th, 2013
First and foremost, people need to stop for a second, calm the f*** down, and take a nice long breather as they read this. You're all acting like children. Children younger than the actual intended demographic of the show.
Next, you need to think about one thing. Hasn't the show always kind of been headed in this direction? Our protagonist is the smartest and most powerful unicorn of her generation. She unlocked the sixth and most elusive element of harmony and has used it to give salvation to a disgraced princess and vanquish not one but two sinister demigods. She's been performing astounding and fantastic feats for the entirety of the show's existence, and you didn't think she was slated for some sort of ascension as her reward? Think about this for a moment. Twilight has prevailed in situations that have left even Celestia dumbfounded. Not only should Twilight become an Alicorn Princess, but Celestia should be handing over her own useless crown.
Furthermore, we already know that the final episode is going to be written by Meghan McCarthy, who has written nearly all the most revered episodes in the series so far. All the episodes that made this show what it is were written by her. I don't know about you, but I think a bit of trust is in order. She'll handle this just fine.
And if you do want to blame this on corporate interference, I want to remind you that the two-part pilot episode had Hasbro interference written all over it. Look back at Friendship is Magic parts 1 and 2 - they were essentially a race to see how many times they could say the word "friendship" in 45 minutes. Applejack even refers to them as the "Elements of Friendship" at one point. I don't think it gets much more facepalm than that, and yet the show only got better after that episode.
In conclusion, this show has weathered the corporate hand before. The Grand Galloping Gala was the biggest marketing ploy you can imagine, and yet season 2 came back full swing introducing Discord. The season 2 finale introduced Cadance (the epitome of the pretty pink princess), and yet in this short season we've already seen some amazing episodes. Considering how inevitable Alicorn Twilight has been, and how heavily her transformation has been foreshadowed, I think the show will survive this.
Who knows? This might even leave the show more exciting than before. You can't be sure until you've seen it, and you can't change what is already slated to happen, so I suggest waiting to see how it is handled before you go getting your knickers in a twist.
I'm just afraid of them ruining the future of the show.. As long as they manage to pull this off, I'll be fine with it.
769131 We're only on the third season. It's way too early for it to be even possible to ruin the show, because that would imply that the show already has a constant form. Was Doctor Who ruined when they replaced Rose with Martha? Well, I guess some would argue yes, but I call them immature extremists.
If you think it's possible for this to ruin the show, then give me one solid example of a plausibly terrible episode concept this could cause.
These guys are not fanfic writers. Contrary to popular belief, they know what they are doing. They will make the best of any bombshell that corporate throws at them. They took the pretty pink princess pony and gave her episode three insanely awesome musical numbers. I don't think the writers will ever allow this to ruin the show, and even then, I don't see what about this could possibly 'ruin' the show. I don't see how this show could be ruined at all unless they dedicate an entire season to pony warfare.
769279 Well I'd say that the writers of Doctor Who are a bit better than the writers of MLP, not to say that the writers of MLP are bad (in fact they are amazing).
But this is a massive change in the show and it has a lot of places to go wrong. However, I think they will do good and I can't wait to see alicorn Twilight. I actually think alicorn Twilight is super cute. :D
I am more scared of Humans in Equestria becoming canon than Twilight becoming an Alicorn.
After all her ascension had some foreshading since the beginning.
before the season 2 finale people had doubts out the wazoo but ended up loving it like noones business.
seeing as how this shares the writer to that episode
i imagine it will turn out similarly.
