Letter 65: Here.
Dear Anon,
I do rather wish you'd take more care of yourself. Sometimes I'll find myself worrying for your wellbeing from time to time and I would really prefer those fears to be baseless.
As for cashews... Well, admittedly given your relationship with my student I'm not sure how this could have been prevented, but generally in the future if you do not recognize something you are about to eat prior to eating it without being told what it is... Well, suffice to say you may wish to confirm with another source that it is safe to eat in that form. Also did you know that potatoes were poisonous to two of the three main races of pony until interbreeding occurred? I actually couldn't eat them before I earned my wings. The first time I saw Luna try one I actually panicked and had a healer at the time hovering for hours.
I'll make an effort to attend more movie nights, at your request then Anon.
Your friend,
Tia
Dear Spike,
You used to send me drawings that took a little thinking to figure out when you were quite young. You've also sent me an interesting missive or two while recovering from this or that yourself. Next time leave them in so I can tease him about it later.
Your friend,
Princess CelestiaPS. I miss when you would send me drawings.

If you'll notice, she also starts calling Twilight her 'most faithful student' in that one again.
Aww celly misses her spikey-wikey UwU
Hay Fries now make a lot more sense.

Potatoes, like chocolate, are dangerous for terrestrial horses and ponies to heat. I figured of the pony races, Earth Ponies probably had the most reason to be able to eat whatever they could grow, especially if the other races couldn't.
Of course, this may in fact mean that the unification of Equestria is the only reason that world has chocolate.
Awwwwwwww, This one is actually really sweet! A little sad, but mostly very sweet.

If you reread the letters looking for sad subtext you'll probably notice a few more things than just this.
Like Celestia stops writing 'most' faithful student for a long time at some point. Or this last letter got super excited and happy when Twilight actually learns an actual friendship lesson without something bad happening.
Or the fact that most of the letters have Celestia trying to guide Twilight into figuring out the actual moral to take away, even as she's trying to guess what actually happened.
Overall I think things are pretty lighthearted, but I like to think there's more there for readers to notice if they're interested.

And that is exactly why I've stuck with this story more than a few dozen chapters. It was just some harmless fun at first, but I got really interested in that stuff you put in behind the scenes.
I like it when writers trust their readers to figure out stuff on their own.
(Though as a writer myself, I have to remember to make the main points fairly obvious. Not everybody gets exactly what I was thinking at the time.)
Ah, mistake here. He knew exactly what he was eating and ate it specifically because he liked cashews. It was not a matter of mis-identification. His only ignorance was not knowing it was poisonous raw, which is not something someone who has eaten many cashews would generally have any reason to consider.
It was conclusion: it was Twilight’s fault.

This is actually very valid, I'm a fervent lover of nuts and cashews are high on my list of favorites. I didn't know they were poisonous when raw (I didn't even think of it at all because you can really only buy them roasted in store and you generally don't think twice since the packaging usually just states "Salted Cashews"
While it's funny to point at Twilight in this case, she's not really guilty (since in this story she's very clearly... not bright in particular ways) this was honestly just a terrible accident born from the misfortune of Anon being born and raised in the world we have created today.

We cook cashews to remove them from their shell. Cashews you can find for sale or what you would recognize as a cashew has already been cooked. The shell proper looks substantially different.
